Chapter 278

As soon as Austin’s crude words came out, Andrew, who was always so composed, looked like he was about to lose it. “Who do you think you are? You think you have any right to speak here?”

Andrew glared at Austin like he was ready to tear him apart.

Austin snorted with open mockery, about to clap back, but beside him, Emily finally seemed to come back to her senses.

Emily suddenly snapped her head toward Lydia. While everyone else was still focused on Austin and Andrew, she lunged at Lydia without warning.

Smack. The slap landed with every ounce of strength Emily had, sending Lydia sprawling to the side. Her head even slammed into the wall with a dull thud.

“Lydia, are you alright?” Emma let out a terrified scream, shot Emily a furious glare, and hurried over to fuss over Lydia in a panic.

Emily’s sudden move was like throwing hot oil onto the flames of Andrew’s already raging temper. “Emily, how long are you going to keep this madness up?” he snapped.

He spun around, grabbed Emily’s hand, yanked her toward him, and swung his other hand down toward her face. But before the slap could land, someone grabbed his wrist and shoved him back hard.

Andrew staggered back several steps, barely managing to steady himself. When he looked up, he saw Austin standing protectively in front of Emily, his face cold and eyes full of warning.

“Just try touching her and see what happens,” Austin growled. His deep eyes were like an unstoppable black hole, fixated on Andrew with a chilling intensity.

In that instant, even Andrew, who’d been on top for years, couldn’t help but shiver, as if he’d just become prey in the sights of a deadly beast.

“What exactly did you do to Grandpa Charles?” The air crackled with tension as Emily fixed her gaze on Lydia. Her words made everyone turn to look at Lydia, their faces full of confusion.

Lydia covered her face, looking utterly wronged. She didn’t seem flustered at all by Emily’s accusation. She just looked even more aggrieved. “Emily, I don’t know what you’re talking about.

“I’ve been at home with Mom these past few days. I haven’t left the house, let alone come to the hospital. Why do you always have to suspect me?”

She continued, “I know you’ve never liked me, but I’m his granddaughter. How could I ever do anything to hurt Grandpa?”

Her eyes brimmed with tears, looking like she’d just suffered the greatest injustice in the world, and the Bennett Family all looked like their hearts were breaking for her.

But Emily and Austin just stood there with cold faces, watching her like she was putting on a pathetic clown act.

The bodyguard, who’d been standing there pale, didn’t look moved at all either.

He immediately spoke up and called her out. “You were here, no doubt about it. Early this morning, you begged me to let you in to see Mr. Bennett. You sounded so sincere and pitiful that I ended up letting you in.”

The bodyguard sounded so certain that people couldn’t help but look at Lydia with suspicion.

But Lydia still didn’t look the slightest bit rattled. Her face was all innocence and grievance, as if she’d been dandered. I didn’t. I’ve been home all day since I went to bed. I never even came to the hospital.

“I don’t have any grudge against you. I don’t even know you. Why are you slandering me? she started sobbing

The bodyguard was completely thrown for a loop.

Lydia still wore that same fragile, innocent face streaked with tears, but any sympathy or pity he’d once felt for her had vanished; now, all he felt was a cold dread creeping over him.

When he saw the Bennett Family all fussing over Lydia and shooting him looks full of suspicion and anger, the bodyuser started to panic. “I’m not lying. You can check the security cameras; it really was her

But before he could finish, the doors to the operating room suddenly opened, and everyone immediately turned to look
