Chapter 281
Seeing Emily’s expression soften, Lucas let out a sigh of relief and quickly snuck in from the doorway.
He set the flowers and fruit on the table, about to call her, but when he caught Emily’s cold look, the word stuck in his throat. “How are you feeling? Any better?” he asked instead.
Emily wasn’t interested in small talk. “What do you want?” she asked bluntly.
In the past, Lucas would’ve totally lost his temper at her attitude.
But lately, for some reason, he always felt a bit uneasy around Emily, and his attitude softened a lot, almost like things were before Lydia came back to the Bennett Family.
Knowing Emily was impatient, he didn’t beat around the bush. “Grandpa’s funeral is tomorrow. Dad asked me to remind you to be there.
“Andrew thinks there’ll be a lot of reporters outside the villa tomorrow, so it’s best if you leave with everyone from the Bennett Family.”
“Even though the whole photo thing has been dealt with, people are still talking. Andrew wants to clear things up at the funeral, and it’ll be easier to handle if you’re there,” he explained.
Even though she knew Charles was gone, hearing the funeral still made Emily’s heart tremble; she couldn’t help but feel a pang inside.
Emily had to go to the funeral. She didn’t want Charles’s name to be tarnished when he left this world, so she didn’t turn down the Bennett Family’s arrangements. “I’ll come back to the Bennett Family tonight,” she said.
As she spoke, she didn’t even look at Lucas; her attitude made it obvious he wasn’t welcome here.

Chapter 281
Still, having someone question Lydia was definitely a win for her.
Emily let out a cold laugh. “If you really want the truth, go dig it up yourself. If I say anything, you’ll just call it slander against Lydia all over again.”
It was always the same. No matter how strong her evidence was, it could never compete with a single tear from Lydia in front of the Bennett Family.
Since he didn’t trust her anyway, she figured it was better to let him dig up the truth himself.
Emily didn’t mind tossing him a hint. “If you want to trace where those photos came from, you should start with Cale
“Cale? Who’s that?” Lucas thought the name rang a bell, but he just couldn’t remember,
It wasn’t until Emily mentioned it that Lucas finally recalled. It was the account provided by the kidnappers who took Lydia, the one Bob had uncovered during his investigation.
Connecting the dots, Lucas suddenly felt a chill run down his spine. Somehow, he just knew the truth he’d dig up wouldn’t be what he wanted.
