Chapter 297

Chapter 297

Xavier becoming the scapegoat was really something he brought upon himself.

When the Jenkins family took over the Bennett Family’s project, everyone thought it was a guaranteed win, and Xavier was no exception.

Thinking he had something big on Sofia, Xavier volunteered to get involved in the project; he was even the one who brought in that shady supplier.

So, when things went south, Xavier was the first to be held accountable.

No one cared about the Jenkins family’s internal drama; all eyes were on the Bennett Family.

The Bennett Family had pulled some strings to snatch this new project from someone else, thinking they’d make a fortune.

But they ended up falling into the other party’s trap. After the incident, they couldn’t find anyone to blame, so they had to take the loss in silence.

The patent application date was solid proof, and no matter how powerful the Bennett Family was, they couldn’t change that. So, to fix this mess, they had to reach out to that niche overseas brand for talks.

Unfortunately, the other side was firm and turned down every olive branch the Bennett Family offered.

With no other choice, Andrew had to go abroad himself, leaving the affairs in Cloudridge to his father, Gale, who had been retired for years.

The Bennett Family used to be at the very top in Cloudridge, but now, thanks to this mess, they’d become a laughingstock. Emma and Lydia didn’t even feel like going shopping anymore.

Lucas was the only one who still felt like stepping outside.

To him, no matter how big the problem was, Andrew could always handle it. That was why he never cared about the company’s business at all. All he cared about was figuring out who had saved him in Lightning Valley back then.

The first thing Lucas looked into was where Emily had been back when the incident happened at Lightning Valley.

If Emily had gone traveling, there would’ve been records of her movements and spending.

But after digging for a while, Lucas didn’t find any sign she’d gone anywhere; instead, what he did find were her hospital records.

On the very day he came back from Lightning Valley, Emily was rushed to the same hospital as him for emergency treatment. She was in a coma for three days before she finally woke up.

Emily ended up in the hospital because the search and rescue team had found her badly hurt and unconscious in Lightning Valley.

‘Lightning Valley? Seriously injured? No way this is just a coincidence,’ Lucas thought to himself.

Lucas almost already knew the truth in his heart, but he just couldn’t accept it.

He wasn’t afraid that he’d been wrong about Emily; he could always apologize and try to make it up to her.

What really scared him was having to face all the pain he’d put her through because of his misunderstanding.

Chapter 297

Lucas couldn’t help but remember every time he blamed her, lashed out at her, or humiliated her after the Lightning Valley

incident.

He remembered the way Emily used to look at him-with trust, then disappointment, and finally, that chilling indifference.

As if trying to run away from it all, Lucas kept telling himself, “There must be some kind of misunderstanding. Even if Emily was hurt in Lightning Valley, that doesn’t mean she was the one who saved me.

And Lydia is so kind and pure; she’d never lie to me, right? Yeah, there has to be some misunderstanding.

As if to prove his theory, Lucas immediately threw himself into investigating this lead further. Eventually, he tracked down the search and rescue team member who had rescued Emily from Lightning Valley all those years ago.

The team member was surprised that Lucas would come asking about it after all this time, but the incident had left a deep impression on him.

“We found Emily first. She was covered in injuries and looked like she’d been through hell. But when she saw us, her first reaction wasn’t to ask for help-she told us to hurry and save you,” the team member said.
