Chapter 301
Lucas never thought that the family he had lived with for so many years could have such an ugly side to it.
He was just asking a fair question, but to them, it looked like he was picking on Lydia, and they even went so far as to hit
him.
They were family by blood, but the way they looked at him was as if he were their sworn enemy.
He couldn’t help but wonder if he had ever looked at Emily the same way, blaming and lashing out at her without even knowing the whole story.
As he carefully sifted through his memories, he realized he really had treated Emily the same way, wearing that same ugly expression as the rest of the Bennett Family. And every single time, it was for Lydia’s sake.
It was like Lucas had just stumbled onto some harsh truth. He jerked his head up, staring at Lydia, curled up and bawling in Emma’s arms, his face draining of color with every passing second.
Lucas suddenly remembered that it used to be Emily who was the one they cherished and doted on.
But somewhere along the way, they started picking on Emily for everything, and no matter what she did, it was always wrong in their eyes.
But the truth was, Emily had never done anything wrong. She even humbled herself, trying so hard to win them over, but all she ever got in return was their coldness and blame. It shouldn’t have been like this.
He’d promised himself since he was a kid that he’d always be good to Emily, that he’d always protect her. He didn’t understand how he ended up like this.
Lucas’s face was as pale as paper, and the way he stared at Lydia shifted from shock to anger, and then to pure hatred.
Lucas snapped, “This is all your fault, all because of you. If it weren’t for you, we never would have treated Emily that way. Why did you have to come back? Why did you have to steal everything that belonged to her?”
Lucas seemed possessed, charging at Lydia without a second thought, like he was about to lash out at her.
Andrew, standing at the front, wasn’t about to give Lucas the chance. He grabbed him and yanked him back hard. “Lucas, are you out of your mind?”
Lucas stumbled a couple of steps before steadying himself, then turned to Andrew and shouted, “Me? You guys are the ones who’ve gone crazy.
“All because of this woman who can’t stop lying, you kept siding with her, blaming Emily for everything, yelling at her, hitting her, you even broke her finger. You’re the ones who wronged Emily. You wronged me, too.”
Lucas shot Lydia a look so fierce it was like he wanted to tear her apart. “Why did you have to come back? If you hadn’t, we never would’ve turned on Emily and never would’ve hurt her like that.
“Emily never tried to take anything from you. It was you. You were always making us believe that she was bullying you. She explained herself so many times, showed us all that evidence, so why did we never trust her?”
Right then, Lucas wished he could go back to those moments when he’d joined his family in blaming Emily and give himself a couple of hard slaps
Nobody ever expected Lucas to say something like that.
Lucas was always the type to live for the moment, never the type to regret anything or anyone this much. And usually, he was scared stiff of Andrew, he’d never have the guts to talk back to Andrew like this.

Chapter 301
So for a moment, everyone just stared at Lucas in shock, totally forgetting how to react.
Lydia saw the stunned looks on everyone’s faces and cursed them silently. She immediately put on a pitiful act and said. “Lucas, if I did anything wrong. I’ll apologize, okay? But please don’t talk to Mom, Dad, or Andrew like that.
“If Emily’s holding a grudge, I can go and apologize to her, too. But she shouldn’t be making you come back just to take it out on the family. Isn’t she just trying to stir up trouble and break us apart?”
