Chapter 327

Chapter 327

When Emily saw Vincent, her already cold face fell completely. Seeing her reaction, Lucas’s heart skipped a beat, and he quickly explained, “I didn’t invite him. He insisted on coming. I couldn’t stop him.”

Lucas hadn’t tried to stop Vincent, but that didn’t stop him from quickly washing his hands of Vincent. After finally getting Emily to agree to meet him, Lucas couldn’t risk losing the chance to see her again because of Vincent.

Vincent knew that Lucas had been acting like he’d lost his mind lately, so he didn’t mind that. He turned to Emily, his brows furrowed in disapproval. “I don’t know what tricks you used to get Lucas to pick on Lydia, but you’d better stop.”

As he finished speaking, a flash of annoyance crossed Vincent’s mind. That wasn’t what he’d meant to say, but every time he ran into Emily because of Lydia, he always ended up losing his cool.

Before Emily could respond, Lucas yanked Vincent back. “Are you out of your mind? Who told you Emily made me pick on Lydia?” Lucas was anxious, worried Emily might get the wrong idea.

He shouted angrily at Vincent, “Lydia always lies to us. I changed my attitude toward her after I saw her true colors. Why do you all blame Emily? You guys are out of mind.”

Maybe it was because he wanted to earn Emily’s forgiveness lately, but Lucas kept replaying everything from the past few years in his mind. He realized just how much the Bennett family had hurt Emily, and the guilt weighing on him grew much

heavier.

He thought Vincent had come along today because he cared about Emily. After all, Emily used to like Vincent so much, and he might help ease their relationship.

But Lucas never expected that Vincent would question Emily for Lydia’s sake. Hearing that, Vincent couldn’t help but frown. “Lydia is your sister. No matter what kind of grudge you have against her, you shouldn’t say things like that.

“Lucas, if you are so rude to Lydia again, I’ll never tolerate it.”

“I don’t care about that. I shouldn’t have brought you here today.” Lucas’s face flushed with anger. “Vincent, you’ll regret this one day.” Just like how he felt now, Lucas wished he could go back and punish himself for hurting Emily before.

Ever since they walked in, Emily hadn’t said a word. Before she could sit down, the two were arguing in front of her. Emily didn’t know if they were caring about her or just putting on a show, but she didn’t care about that.

It was only after they finished arguing that she looked at Vincent and asked, “So you came all the way here just to scold me for Lydia?”

Emily thought that if she didn’t have something important to discuss with Lucas, she wouldn’t have wasted her time here and would have left already. So if Vincent was just here to take Lydia’s side, he could say whatever he wanted and then get

lost.

Her expression was cold, her tone icy, and there was even a trace of undisguised disgust in her eyes. It was like needles pricking at Vincent’s heart, leaving all his words stuck in his throat.

After all, they had been in love before; Vincent knew how much Emily had loved him. She had never once looked at him like that, not since they were kids.

Even after Vincent tricked Emily into St. Gabriel Reform Academy, when she came back and saw Vincent, all she just wanted to know if he’d feel any regret after learning what she’d been through there.

But Austin told her that in this world, the only person who mattered was herself. So all that resentment she once had for Vincent was long gone. Now, to Emily, Vincent was just like anyone else from the Bennett family.

Vincent didn’t realize it at all. He still thought Emily was acting like this because she was jealous of Lydia. He’d gotten used to this kind of situation a long time ago.

He figured if he reacted to Emily’s attitude, she’d take advantage of it, so he just dropped the whole thing about her messing with Lucas and Lydia’s relationship.

With that in mind, Vincent’s expression turned serious as he got to the real reason he’d come today. “The first time we met after you came back, you asked me if I knew what those two years were like for you. What did you mean?”

Emily hadn’t expected him to bring that up; she couldn’t help laughing. She thought, ‘After all this time, and now Vincent suddenly wants to talk about it? Does he not see how absurd that is? His sudden show of concern is purposeful.

“Vincent, do you think that’s a funny question?” Emily let out a cold laugh. “You were the one who tricked me into going there. Do you honestly expect me to believe you care about what happened to me?”

Vincent retorted, “I’m here because I care. I never forgot what you said. That’s how I didn’t understand those two years, so I looked into it.

“We grew up together; if you were hurt, it hurts me too. But I see you only as a friend, Emily. I need you to stop being jealous of Lydia. I—”

“You went digging into St. Gabriel Reform Academy?” Emily suddenly cut him off, her voice sharp.

Emily’s calm face changed immediately. She grabbed Vincent by the collar, not even caring when what she was holding fell to the floor.

Her voice shook with rage, her face twisted in fury, just like Vincent had crossed a line she couldn’t stand. Her outburst left both Vincent and Lucas frozen in shock.

Vincent was the first to come to his senses, frowning in annoyance. “What’s with your attitude? I’m just trying to care about you.” He shook off Emily’s hand, giving her a displeased look.

Emily’s face was cold, her gaze almost hateful as she looked at him. “I don’t need your concern. You made your choice, so stop pretending everything you do is for my good.

“If you cared about me, you wouldn’t have dumped me for Lydia once she came back. And you wouldn’t have tricked me into St. Gabriel Reform Academy. Stop using the excuse that it’s all for me to do these things. It just makes me sick.”

Emily couldn’t stand it anymore. She shot Vincent a fierce glare before leaving. The first time she ran into Vincent after getting out of St. Gabriel Reform Academy, she let her emotions get the better of her and blurted out that question.

But the moment the words left her mouth, she regretted it. Because what happened at St. Gabriel Reform Academy was something she could never let anyone find out.
