Chapter 336
The idea of calling a general meeting came from Austin. Emily had never cared about Bennett Group’s shares. The only reason she accepted the shares Charles left her was just in case Lydia tried anything.
So even though she’d held onto those shares for a long time, she never made a move. But Andrew kept scheming to get her shares over and over again. Annoyed, Emily suddenly got the idea to join Bennett Group herself.
Lydia’s only real leverage right now was her status as a member of the Bennett Family, which was backed up by Bennett Group.
Emily thought, ‘If Lydia loses that support, will her weirdness finally start to show?’
Thinking about it that way, Emily figured joining Bennett Group might actually be a pretty smart move.
But Emily had never cared about business stuff growing up. The only skill she ever bothered to learn was painting. Even if she forced her way into the company, Andrew would probably kick her out in less than a week.
After thinking it over, Emily decided to ask Austin for help. Handling company stuff was a piece of cake for Austin, but he didn’t agree right away.
After a moment of silence, he asked, “If Bennett Group goes under one day, would you be sad?”
His question caught Emily completely off guard, leaving her speechless for a moment. She had no idea why Austin would ask that, but she knew that if he was asking, he must be up to something with Bennett Group. He might’ve already made a
move.
Emily came right out and asked what she was thinking.
Austin was just as blunt. “That project between the Bennett Family and the Jenkins family was a trap I set up specifically for the Bennett Family. And that’s not the only one.”
The details were complicated, and Austin didn’t bother to explain further, but Emily could already figure it out. What he meant was that the traps he set for them were enough to bring down Bennett Group.
Emily thought, ‘If Bennett Group goes under, will I even care?’ She asked herself that, and honestly, her answer was no.
She hadn’t seen herself as part of the Bennett Family for ages, so whatever happened to Bennett Group really had nothing to do with her anymore.
“I won’t be sad, but I can’t help feeling a bit of regret,” Emily said honestly. “After all, Bennett Group was Grandpa Charles’s life’s work.”
Austin knew just how much Charles meant to her, so he totally got what she was saying. After thinking it over, he said, “In that case, why not just take over Bennett Group yourself?
“It’s still the same company, but this time you’d be the one calling the shots. Charles gave you those shares because he truly saw you as his own granddaughter.
“Lydia isn’t even blood-related to the Bennett Family, but those idiots in the family are still completely taken in by her. The whole family is a mess because of them.
“If you don’t want Charles’s life’s work to go to waste, why not carry on his legacy with your own hands?”
Emily had never even considered something like that, so when Austin brought it up, she turned him down without a second thought..
She was well aware she had zero talent for running a business, and even if she tried to fight for it, she was no match for Andrew at all.

But Austin was insistent. “If you want Lydia to lose Bennett Group as her backing, then either the company has to collapse, or you have to make it yours. Don’t worry, Emily, I’ve got your back.”
In the end, Emily went along with Austin’s suggestion, and that was how she ended up calling an extraordinary general meeting.
But if she wanted to challenge Andrew, who had been running the company for years, the small stake she held was nowhere near enough.
If she wanted to enter the company without trouble, the first step was to offer a substantial benefit as her token of loyalty.
