With a loud crash, the door slammed against the wall and bounced back. A hand stopped it, and right after that, Lucas stormed in, his face full of rage.
Lydia frowned, her face darkening with displeasure. “You…”
She was just about to say something when she saw Gale, Emma, and Andrew bursting in, flustered and anxious. Even Vincent, who had only just parted ways with her, followed close behind.
Lydia immediately masked her annoyance, putting on a pitiful, frightened look. “Lucas, what are you doing?”
Lucas stormed over, his anger barely contained, and flung the documents right in her face like a slap. “Lydia, you lying snake. How much longer are you planning to keep us in the dark?”
Hearing his words and seeing the uncertain looks on the rest of the Bennett Family, Lydia’s heart suddenly dropped. She opened the file in her hands and saw that it was full of DNA test reports about her.
Even with all her acting skills, Lydia couldn’t keep her composure-her mask slipped. And when she finally saw the results, her hands shook as she gripped the papers.
Every single report said the same thing: she wasn’t related to the Bennett Family at all. Instead, she was actually related to Cale.
‘Cale’s been missing for almost two months now. Where did they get his DNA from?’ Lydia wondered to herself. ‘Did Lucas have something to do with Cale’s disappearance?
‘Does he also know about the secret Cale holds-the one that could completely destroy me?’ In just a split second, Lydia’s mind was racing with questions.
But now wasn’t the time to dwell on them. When she looked up at Lucas again, she had already made up her mind and knew what to do next. Lucas was now nothing but a useless pawn to her.
Her eyes rimmed red with tears. “Lucas, what did I ever do for you to go so far as to set me up like this?”
Lucas looked at him with utter disgust. “Falsely accuse you? The evidence is right there in black and white. What are you even acting for?”
Lydia wasn’t about to admit it. She pulled out a few sheets from the file. These were the DNA test results for Emily and the Bennett Family members.
After finding out Lydia wasn’t actually related to the Bennett Family, Lucas, who was usually all impulse and no brains, actually did something smart for once. He secretly took Emily’s DNA and had it tested against the Bennett Family’s.
The final results showed that Emily was the true Bennett Family blood. No one really knew what was going through Lucas’s mind when he saw those results.
He’d already braced himself for the fact that Lydia wasn’t actually related to the Bennett Family, but it had never crossed his mind that Emily was the real deal.
Over the past few years, they have consistently favored Lydia, the impostor, and repeatedly hurt Emily, whom they had cherished like a precious gem for eighteen years before her.
And now, to find out that the one they’d always looked down on and pushed away was actually their real family all along. The whole drama was never even real to begin with.

‘How was I supposed to accept a truth like that?’ Lucas thought. So, the moment he got those results, all his composure and reason were shattered. He stormed back, ready to demand answers from Lydia.
He thought that with this ironclad evidence, he could finally rip off Lydia’s fake mask, show Emily how truly sorry they were, and maybe convince her to come back to the Bennett Family.
