Chapter 375
Just as the ashtray was raised high and about to come crashing down on Emily’s head, the door was suddenly kicked open.
With a thunderous bang, everyone in the room jumped in shock, completely forgetting what they were doing.
The commanding man from earlier, Calvin, appeared at the doorway. Behind him, a group of bodyguards rushed in and, in no time, pinned all the men, including Sean, to the ground.
Bathed in the bright light from outside, Calvin stood in the doorway, backlit and imposing, like a deity descending from above. He then strode steadily toward Emily.
The close call with the ashtray snapped Emily out of her daze, making her a bit more clear-headed. She stared at Calvin, still in shock, her heart thumping wildly in her chest like a drum.
Calvin walked up to Emily, reached out, and gently helped her to her feet, his eyes showing a flicker of concern. He asked, “Are you okay? Is your mind clear?”
His deep, magnetic voice was like a heavy hammer pounding the drum in Emily’s heart, making her whole body tremble involuntarily.
She stared at Calvin blankly, studying every detail of his face-from his brows, to his nose, to his lips-as if trying to find something she couldn’t quite name. She thought, ‘What am I searching for? Why does he feel so familiar to me?’
Emily felt lost, afraid, and helpless, her emotions a tangled mess. It was as if all those feelings were about to drown out the fragile clarity she’d just managed to grasp.
In the next moment, Calvin reached out and placed his hand on her forehead, his brows knitting together. He asked, “Are you scared silly?”
When Emily still didn’t react, he let out a soft sigh and reached out to her. He said softly, “Don’t be scared. I’m right here. I won’t let anyone hurt you.”
His voice sounded slightly helpless, and the icy, unapproachable aura he usually had seemed to vanish instantly, replaced by unexpected gentleness.
The usually cold, unattainable Calvin suddenly turned gentle-his charm in that moment was almost deadly. But when he tried to hug her, Emily instinctively stepped back.
The gentle look on Calvin’s face froze in place, his hand still hanging in the air. He seemed a bit hurt by her reaction, and he let out a heavy sigh.
Just as he was about to pull his hand back, someone suddenly yanked him back from behind, making him stumble a few steps.
Luckily, his assistant was quick to react and caught him just in time, preventing him from falling.
Once he steadied himself, Calvin looked up to see a group of bodyguards storming into the room.
Austin led the charge, rushing straight to Emily, gripping her shoulders anxiously, and scanning her up and down. He asked, “Emily, are you okay? Did you get hurt?”
Emily slowly snapped out of it, her gaze falling on the worried face in front of her. It took her a moment before she finally said, “I’m fine. What about you? What happened?”
Austin looked like a complete mess-his hair was disheveled, his clothes were torn in several places, there was a bruise at the 1/2

corner of his mouth, and blood was trickling down his forehead. He looked like he’d just been through a vicious fight.
Sering that Emily could answer his question and didn’t seem too disoriented. Austin finally let out a sigh of relief. But this was not the time for explanations.
Without a word, Austin turned around, his expression icy cold as he stared at Calvin, shielding Emily completely behind
him.
The hotel room wasn’t all that big. Besides the people Sean had brought, both Calvin and Austin had each brought several bodyguards of their own.
The room was packed wall to wall with people, so crowded that even the air felt stifling.
