Chapter 395

“Don’t touch me. Get away!” Vincent suddenly freaked out, wildly hitting the spot Lydia had just held.

Lydia got pushed down to the ground, shocked. “Vincent.”

Seeing this, Emily’s mouth twisted into a cruel smile. “Lydia, do you even know what’s happened to Vincent?”

Lydia looked confused but curious. Emily smirked. “He…”

Just then, a loud, harsh scream rang out nearby. “Lydia!”

Everyone turned to see a filthy woman with torn clothes rushing over. The bodyguards immediately moved to protect Emily and watched the woman carefully. But the woman ran right at Lydia and grabbed her.

“I’ll give you the stuff. Give me my husband back!” Lydia was caught off guard and overwhelmed by the foul smell, almost passing out.

Luckily, she stayed conscious and tried to push the woman away. “Who are you? I don’t know you. Let go! Vincent, help me!”

Lydia’s voice trembled with tears as she looked to Vincent for help. But Vincent looked deeply disturbed. He didn’t seem aware of what was happening and kept slapping at the “dirt” on himself.

When he saw Lydia crawling toward him for help, terror crossed his face like he saw something horrible. He yelled, “Don’t come near!” and panicked, running off.

Lydia was stunned. Just a few days apart, and Vincent was a completely different person. But she didn’t have time to think. She fought to push the strange madwoman away.

“I told you, I don’t know you. Get lost!” Lydia snapped and shoved the woman hard. The woman fell backward, hitting the back of her head hard on the ground, and instantly passed out.

Blood spread from the wound, and Lydia turned pale with fear. She looked around frantically. “It’s not my fault. I don’t know her. I only pushed her lightly.”

Because it was near the company entrance and close to quitting time, a crowd had gathered. Lydia panicked, scrambled up, and ran off.

Emily stood there, shocked by the sudden chaos. What a mess! She glanced at the unconscious woman on the ground. The woman called Lydia’s name the moment she appeared and said, “I’ll give you the stuff. Give me my husband back.”

Emily felt instinctively that something was seriously wrong. She turned to the bodyguards and ordered, “Take her to the hospital. Have someone watch her at all times. Find out who she is. Tell me as soon as she wakes up.”

Emily didn’t waste any more time. After setting everything up, she got on a plane and flew abroad. Just like she expected, the moment they found out she was from the Bennett Group, they flat-out refused to meet with her.

But Emily didn’t back down. She stayed put right there in the lobby. Since she was overseas, her face stood out. People walking by kept stealing glances at her.

Emily didn’t feel uncomfortable at all. She calmly sipped her coffee and reviewed her papers. She didn’t look like the shy girl who’d just left St. Gabriel Reform Academy anymore. Now, she carried herself with a tougher, more confident vibe.

That was all thanks to Austin, who’d helped her build that strength step by step. When quitting time rolled around, Emily packed her files and kept an eye on the elevator. Finally, the executive elevator doors opened.

Chapter 395

But when the person stepped out, Emily froze. The documents slipped right out of her hand onto the floor. It wasn’t until the figure neared the door that Emily snapped out of it. She grabbed her papers and ran after her. “Lila!” she called out.

The sharp sound of Nokari cut through the air and caught everyone’s attention. Most people turned to look, including at woman in a sharp little suit surrounded respectfully by others.

When the woman saw Emily, she looked shocked. “Emily? What are you doing here?”

She paused a moment and then asked, “Wait, you’re the Bennett Group rep who came to work with us?”

Emily nodded, her expression complicated. She hadn’t expected the person she was searching for to be her former sister-in- law, the woman everyone thought was dead, Lila.

“Lila, you…” Emily trailed off, unsure how to begin.

Lila seemed to know what she wanted to ask. She sighed softly and led Emily back to her office before starting to explain.

The Collins family in Cloudridge wasn’t as powerful as the Bennett Family, but still one of the top rich families around. Their villas were neighbors, and Lila and Andrew had grown up together.

Both were smart and had been groomed from childhood to inherit their families. They were a perfect match, a natural couple who eventually got together.

In Cloudridge, Lila and Andrew were known as the ideal loving couple. But that love started to crack the very first year Lydia came back to the Bennett Family.

With the real and fake daughters under one roof, conflicts were bound to happen. Andrew always sided with his sister Lydia, while Lila stood by Emily’s side.

Over time, that caused a lot of tension in their marriage. Then, on Andrew’s birthday, just as Lila was rushing home to celebrate with him, she got kidnapped.

It rained that day, and their car slipped off the road into the sea. Lila was three months pregnant. Neither she nor the baby was ever found.

Later, all the evidence showed that the kidnapping was a setup plan by Lila and Emily to stop Andrew from always siding with Lydia.

Because of this, Andrew came to hate Emily with a passion. At first, no matter how much Emily insisted she was innocent, Andrew nearly lost it and almost killed her several times.

That whole thing became a permanent wound in Emily’s heart. She often thought that if she had just left when Lydia returned and never fought with her, Lila and Andrew might still be together, and Lila would still be alive.

But now, Lila told her, “Emily, none of it was your fault back then. It was Lydia’s. She was the one who hired the person who kidnapped me.

“The car didn’t slip into the sea because of the rain. Lydia wanted to drown me. I fell into the water while fighting back, and the car went down with me.”
