Chapter 422

Lucas looked at the flashy, some even brand-new clothes, and felt sick to his stomach. He couldn’t stand the sight of them.

“Get all this junk out of here. The farther, the better. From now on, I don’t want to see a single thing in this house that even reminds me of her,” he ordered coldly.

Everyone knew who he meant by “her.” No one dared to hesitate. They rushed to gather everything related to Lydia and

tossed it all out of the house.

After they’d thrown everything out in a frenzy, the servants barely had time to catch their breath when Lucas ordered, “Restore this room to how it was when Emily lived here. Bring back all her things.”

He thought, ‘When Emily comes back, she’ll be able to feel how sincere we are and how much we cherish her. Then, maybe our family can go back to the way things used to be.’

The servants looked at each other, hesitating and unsure of what to do.

Just as Lucas was about to lose his temper, one of the servants spoke up, “Mr. Lucas Bennett, it’s not hard to put the room back the way it was, but about those things…”

The servant paused, then spoke, “Emily’s things were all kept in the storage room at first, but later, you told us to throw everything away.”

Lucas was stunned, only remembering that he really, had given that order. His voice trembled. “Did you throw everything away?”

The servant nodded. “You were really angry at the time, Mr. Lucas Bennett. You said if you ever saw anything related to Emily in this house again, you’d fire us.”

Lucas’s face turned pale as he remembered his own words. He had given that order himself, so he couldn’t blame anyone else.

Emily had just come back from St. Gabriel Reform Academy, and he had treated her like that. Lucas thought, ‘She must have been devastated.’

Right at that moment, Lucas just wanted to slap himself, but in the end, he couldn’t bring himself to do it.

“No way. Emily lived with us for eighteen years. She had so much stuff. Go look for it, now! I don’t care if you have to tear the whole villa apart, just find anything that belonged to Emily,” he ordered, his voice desperate.

Suddenly, Lucas cut himself off, “No, I’ll do it myself. I have to be the one to find something of hers.” With that, he dashed straight into the storage room, searching through everything.

His hands were so weak that he could barely move anything, but he stubbornly refused any help. He was determined to search every single corner himself, no matter what.

Lucas thought, ‘Maybe if I do this myself, I’ll actually find something of hers. Maybe then Emily will see how much I mean it, and maybe our family can go back to how it used to be, like none of this ever happened.’

But Lucas had been so harsh and absolute with his words. The Bennett family’s servants, trained by Bob to be precise and thorough, did exactly as he ordered. When they were told to throw everything out, of course, nothing would be left behind.

Lucas searched from morning until night. The storage room was emptied out, but he still came up empty-handed.

Staring at the empty storage room, Lucas collapsed onto the floor. His injured hand trembled unconsciously, sharp pain

stabbing through the wound, and blood seeped through the bandages. But he didn’t care about any of that.

“How could this happen?” He kept repeating those words, his expression blank and helpless, looking utterly pitiful.

The servants stood in the doorway, exchanging uneasy glances, but not a single one dared to go over and check on him. They had all witnessed firsthand just how ruthless and indifferent the Bennett family could be.

A family member who’d lived under the same roof for eighteen years could be tossed aside like nothing. Lydia had been spoiled to the heavens, but when she died, no one even bothered to claim her body.
