Chapter 107
‘With his skills, buying a place wouldn’t be a problem. There was no reason for him to keep staying in this run- down rental with me,’ Emily thought.
Austin blinked playfully, a glint in his eyes. “Emily, you went through so much trouble to save me. Are you really going to ditch me before I even get a chance to pay you back?”
Emily hadn’t expected him to say that. Austin’s expression and tone were so carnest and sincere, as if he truly meant every word.
“But could such a reason really be genuine?’ she wondered.
Emily knew all too well how fleeting sincerity could be, so even if Austin seemed sincere, she still couldn’t bring herself to fully trust him.
While Emily was still in a daze, Austin suddenly seized her wrist. “I’ve bought some furniture that hasn’t been delivered yet. Come with me, Emily. If there’s anything you don’t like, we can swap it out.”
Before Emily could react, he was already pulling her out the door and heading straight to the furniture mall.
Austin didn’t pick anything fancy, and the priciest items were just a pair of beds, but the selection was comprehensive, even including a dishwasher and an oven.
When the shopkeeper saw all this furniture being delivered to an old neighborhood, they assumed it was for elderly family members and praised the two of them as such caring kids. Emily and Austin shared a knowing look but said nothing.
Emily didn’t want to touch the money Austin had earned, but with her own savings, she couldn’t afford a better place anyway.
Besides, this was the first place that truly felt like home. She wasn’t ready to leave it behind just yet.
As for Austin, keeping his identity hidden was actually safer in an older neighborhood like this.
Besides, he’d earned that money just so he could stay. Naturally, wherever Emily was, that’s where he’d be.
As they stepped out of the furniture mall and were about to hail a cab, a luxury car came screeching toward them.
A shrill screech of brakes pierced the air, nearly rupturing their eardrums. Austin, walking ahead, was almost hit.
“Watch out!” Emily cried, yanking him back with lightning reflexes. The car came to a stop less than three feet away from them.
Still shaken, Emily quickly checked on Austin. “Are you hurt?”
“I’m fine,” Austin replied breezily, shaking his head as if nothing had happened. But when he turned to look at the car, his gaze turned ice-cold and ominous.
That car was aiming straight for me. For a split second, someone really tried to kill me. Have people from Beloris already found me?’ Austin thought.

Chapter 107
The car doors swung open one after another, and two strangers Austin didn’t recognize stepped out. He didn’t know them, but Emily certainly did.
“Lucas?” Emily’s voice burned with anger. “What the hell are you trying to pull?” She immediately shielded Austin behind her, glaring fiercely at Lucas.
Lucas was a professional rally driver, so there was no way that the dangerous maneuver toward Austin just now was accidental.
Seeing Emily step protectively in front of Austin, Lucas’s anger flared. He snapped, “What am I trying to pull? That’s what I should be asking you.”
Pointing furiously at Austin, he demanded, “Who the hell is he? Is he the guy you were on the phone with last time? Is he your sugar daddy?”
Emily had long since grown used to how impulsive Lucas could be. When his emotions ran high, his words turned downright venomous.
But she couldn’t stand to hear him insult Austin. In her heart, someone as genuine as Austin was a world apart from the Bennett family.
Ignoring Lucas, Emily turned and tried to pull Austin away, but he wouldn’t budge.
Austin’s smile never wavered; his bright and sunny demeanor made him seem even more like a genuinely spirited young man than Lucas.
Austin flashed a cocky grin and said, “I don’t know who you are, but you’ve got it all wrong. I’m not her sugar daddy, but she’s my sugar mommy.”
Still grinning with pride, he added, “Everything I eat, wear, or use? All bought with dear Emily’s money.”
