Chapter 165

Lucas stared blankly at the cold and mocking Emily in front of him, feeling like someone had just punched him hard in the chest. He demanded, “What’s that supposed to mean? Why do you always have to talk to me in that sarcastic tone?”

Emily frowned, looking genuinely confused. She said, “You said it yourself. If I refused to admit my mistake and apologize, I’d have to bow and make amends.”

Lucas looked completely lost. He asked, “When did I ever say that?” His voice cut off abruptly, and his face went pale. He suddenly remembered. Every time he caught Emily making a mistake, he’d get angry and demand that she admit it and apologize.

Emily was born stubborn. No matter what evidence was put in front of her, she’d never admit she was wrong. When Lucas was furious, he’d sometimes force her to bow and apologize.

Lucas thought, ‘I have said those domineering words, but I never really meant it. If Emily hadn’t been so stubborn about refusing to admit her mistakes, I wouldn’t have blurted out those words in anger.

There were a few times when Emily made me so mad that I actually put my hands on her, but it was just pushing or pulling her a bit, nothing serious.

‘How could something this trivial make her hold a grudge for so long and keep giving me attitude about it?’

Lucas looked utterly disappointed as he said, “So what if I said those things? You were the one who went too far. I only got so mad because I care about you. In the end, I was doing it for your own good.”

Emily couldn’t help but laugh. She thought, ‘Here we go again. For my own good. I am about to puke if I have to hear those three words one more time!’

She shot back, “How about you tell me, Lucas, exactly what you’ve ever done that was actually ‘for my own good”?”

Seeing her still being so stubborn, Lucas got even angrier. He snapped, “If I wasn’t doing this for your own good, I would’ve told Andrew ages ago that you’re living with Austin.

“You’re totally hung up on Austin right now. If our family forced you to break up with him, you’d throw another tantrum.

“You only let Austin get close to you because you were pissed at our family. If he sees you fighting with them, he’ll use it to stir up trouble between you.”

Lucas spoke with such certainty, as if he’d seen it all happen with his own eyes.

But Emily just replied calmly, “He wouldn’t.”

Lucas was stunned. He’d been going on and on, only to get those three words in return. He felt like something was stuck in his chest. Frustrated and pissed, he jabbed a finger at Emily and asked, “You really trust him that much?”

He thought, ‘We have grown up together, and yet she doesn’t believe I meant well-instead, she put her faith in some random pretty boy she barely knows.’

Emily had no intention of explaining herself. She just shot back, “If you’re done, could you get out of the way? I want to go back to my room and get some rest.”

Lucas thought he’d made himself perfectly clear, but he couldn’t believe Emily was still acting so ungrateful.

Back in the day, he wouldn’t have bothered explaining himself to anyone. Just getting his concern was something people should’ve been grateful for. He fumed inwardly, ‘Who does Emily think she is, treating me like this?’
