Chapter 269

Chapter 269

18)

Ever since the scandal broke, paparazzi had been lurking around the gated community like shadows. But with the Bennett Family’s strict instructions and the community’s top-notch security, they hadn’t managed to sneak in.

Now, with the gates wide open, they were loitering nearby, looking like they could slip in at any moment. A surge of anxiety hit Emily. She hurriedly flung open the car door and dashed over. She snapped, “What are you doing?”

Quick as lightning, she grabbed a paparazzo who was about to sneak in, planting herself firmly in front of the gate and shooting a wary glare at the group of camera-toting paparazzi.

They hadn’t expected Emily to pop up out of nowhere. For a split second, they looked guilty, but then they quickly raised their cameras. “You’re the fake daughter of the Bennett Family, right? Are those photos real?”

“Did you really have an inappropriate relationship with Mr. Bennett?”

“After your fake heiress identity was exposed, you didn’t leave the Bennett Family right away. Are you just too attached to their wealth and luxury?”

Were you the one who seduced Mr. Bennett first?”

Under the guise of seeking the truth, they were practically shoving their cameras right in Emily’s face, trying to catch every embarrassing moment on film.

Emily’s face was stern, her eyes glaring angrily at everyone. At that moment, she had no energy to consider how these people had slipped in or why there had been no reaction from the servants and the neighborhood security despite the

commotion.

She barricaded herself against the gate, refusing to let any of them through. If she let them in, there was no way wouldn’t find out everything. But she was just one person against a whole crowd.

Seeing the paparazzi getting more and more aggressive, Emily’s eyes flashed with anger. She grabbed the nearest camera and slammed it hard to the ground, then, without hesitation, swung her hand and slapped the guy right across the face.

The sharp sound was like a slap to everyone there, leaving them all stunned as the whole place went dead silent. The paparazzo was left dumbfounded, staring at Emily in utter shock for a long moment. “You dare hit me?”

“What’s there to be afraid of? I already slapped you, didn’t I? Go on, call the police. Let them know how you snuck into this gated community and what the penalty for trespassing is. Everything you just filmed? That’s evidence against you.”

Her words really intimidated them, making everyone freeze on the spot. Sure, they were skirting the law, but none of them actually wanted to get busted or end up in court.

The paparazzo who got slapped still wouldn’t let it go. He stuck out his neck and argued. “We just came in after the others. The security at the gate saw us and didn’t say a word. How can you call it trespassing?”

The other paparazzi immediately chimed in. “Yeah, Ms. Bennett opened the gate herself. She let some other paparazzi in, so why can’t we go in too?”

“Maybe she left the gate wide open on purpose, just waiting for us to walk in. That’s not trespassing.”

Emily’s face darkened in an instant. ‘Wait, Lydia actually opened the gate and let the other paparazzi in?’ Emily didn’t even have time to think. She stumbled back, yanked the gate shut behind her, and bolted straight for the house.

Her sudden move left the paparazzi stunned. They stared at each other for a while, unsure what to do, until one finally spoke up hesitantly. “What now?”
