Chapter 270

Chapter 270

The paparazzo who’d just been slapped thought for a second, then gritted his teeth. “Let’s just climb over the wall. Why should we be left out? Once things get crazy inside Bennett resident, nobody’s gonna care about a few nobodies like us,” he

said.

He’d had his camera smashed and got slapped in the face-no way was he leaving empty-handed today. After a quick huddle, they started helping each other scramble over the wall.

Emily had no clue what was happening outside. She rushed into the Bennett residence, only to see a crowd of paparazzi aiming their cameras right at Charles, who was standing there leaning on his cane.

Charles usually stayed calm, only losing composure when hearing about Bob’s accident at his birthday party. But now, his face was green and pale, clutching his chest and gasping, clearly very upset.

Emily didn’t think twice. She rushed up to shield Charles, yelling, “What are you doing? Get out. You’re not welcome here.” She didn’t even know why, but panic and fear surged inside her. All she could think about was getting these people out, right

now.

But the paparazzi, finally getting their shot, weren’t about to back off now. They aggressively shoved their cameras right at Emily and Charles. “Are those photos online actually real? Are you two really involved like that?”

Ms. Harper, did you shamelessly go after Mr. Bennett just for the Bennett Family’s wealth and luxury?”

Mr. Bennett, is it true you treat this girl-who isn’t even your real granddaughter-better than your own flesh and blood, all because of some scandalous relationship?”

How long has this been going on between you two? Does anyone else in the Bennett Family know about it?”

They were like wild dogs scenting a bone, shoving their cameras right into Emily’s and Charles’ faces, hoping to capture omething explosive for an even bigger story.

Damn it. You…” Charles was so furious that his face went white. He wanted nothing more than to raise his cane and beat every last one of them, but what hurt even more was seeing Emily being treated this way. His heart ached for her.

No wonder things have been so tense between Emily and the rest of the Bennetts lately. My poor Emily, she’s been suffering o much, he thought.

Seeing cameras shoved into Emily’s face, nearly poking her eyes, Charles raised his cane. “Get out. All of you, get out!”

His cane struck the nearest paparazzo, not a heavy blow, but with all the jostling, Charles wobbled unsteadily on his feet.

Emily was quick to catch him, steadying him. Then, with a frosty look, she shot a glare at the servants cowering in the corner, scared stiff. “Stop just standing there. Get Grandpa upstairs, now!”

The servants were stunned. One instinctively stepped forward, but a hand stopped her. Lydia, who had been watching smugly from a corner, stepped forward and said, “I’ll take Grandpa upstairs.”

She’d schemed so long to get to this point. She’d actually worried that if Emily wasn’t here, the drama wouldn’t be nearly as juicy, but it was like the universe was on her side, because Emily showed up right on cue.

With things just getting good, there was no way she was letting that old fossil Charles walk away so easily.

Emily was struggling to hold back the overexcited paparazzi, completely oblivious to what was happening behind her. She didn’t notice that just as Lydia was about to reach out and support Charles, he suddenly grabbed her wrist.

Charles’ face darkened, his sharp eyes bored into her as if he could see right through her. “Was this all your doing?”

Lydia’s heart skipped a beat. Her expression panicked. “I have no idea what you mean. Grandpa. Let me help you upstairs first. Once these paparazzi are gone, you can come back down.”

She suddenly raised her voice. “Grandpa, don’t worry. They only have this one chance to get into the Bennett residence. If they miss it, they won’t get another. Once they leave empty-handed, no one will talk about you and Emily anymore.”
