Chapter 292

Chapter 292

Andrew looked at him, baffled. “Did you get drunk last night or something? Lydia even got hurt saving you. You know that, right?”

“Besides that injury on her hand, did she have any other wounds?” Lucas pressed.

“Are you out of your mind?” Andrew slammed his hand on the desk, his anger flaring. “Are you hoping Lydia got hurt even worse? What did she ever do to you for you to have such vicious thoughts about her?”

“That’s not what I meant. I-” Lucas stammered, struggling to find the right words to explain himself.

Andrew had always been the serious, straight-laced type; no matter what happened, he was the calmest guy in the room, except when it came to Lydia.

And it wasn’t just Andrew. Everyone in the family totally lost it whenever Lydia was involved; it was like they turned into someone else. The thought sent a chill down Lucas’s spine.

Lucas shook his head hard, trying to get those thoughts out, then switched gears and asked, “What about Emily? I heard she was traveling back then. Where did she go? Did you actually see her leave, Andrew?”

Andrew frowned, looking at him, confused. “What’s gotten into you today? Emily was worried we’d get mad, so she only told Lydia about her trip. You know that, right?

“It’s been years since all that happened, and now you’re suddenly bringing it up again, doubting Lydia. Did Emily put something in your head?”

Lucas didn’t even register the rest of what Andrew said. He froze, his whole body tense. “So, Lydia said she saved me and tha Emily was traveling? No one else actually saw it? Not a single person?”

In that instant, Emily’s relentless questioning from yesterday echoed in his mind. It was like a muffled thunderbolt exploded in his chest, the pain so sharp it made him stumble back a couple of steps.

Upon seeing how pale Lucas looked, Andrew’s anger quickly turned to concern. He got up from behind his desk and walked over. “Lucas, what’s going on with you lately?”

Lucas used to be the one who always stood up for Lydia. If anyone ever picked on her, he’d be the first to jump in and defend her, even before anyone else could say a word.

But just recently, Lydia had told Andrew that Lucas kept taking Emily’s side, and even blamed Lydia for stuff she didn’t do; honestly, it was just crazy.

Andrew let out a sigh and asked, sounding certain, “You’ve been hanging around Emily a lot more lately. Did she say something to you?”

Before Lucas could answer, Andrew went on, his voice full of disdain, “You know Emily always tries to compete with Lydia over everything. She jumps at any chance to pick on her, and she’s always lying. So why do you still trust her?

“Now that she’s got fifty percent more shares than Lydia, you can bet she’ll go show off in front of her. She might even stir up trouble at the company.”

Andrew continued, “To avoid any unnecessary drama in the future, I’m planning to talk to her and have her give 5% of her shares to Lydia.

“That way, they’ll both have the same amount, and she won’t be able to use her shares to push Lydia around anymore.”

Lucas looked up at him, shocked. “Andrew, those shares were Grandpa’s inheritance to Emily. Grandpa just passed away, and now you’re already trying to take her shares? How is that any different from just snatching them away?”

Andrew looked at Lucas, disappointment all over his face. “I swear, something’s really wrong with you lately. Even now, you’re still taking Emily’s side?

“Everything I’m doing is for Lydia, and for the good of the company. Since you never cared about the company anyway. don’t go butting in on my decisions.”

Andrew made his decision with a stern face, completely shutting Lucas down and not giving him a chance to argue back.

He realized he couldn’t let Emily keep egging Lucas on, so that very afternoon, he showed up at her place.
