Chapter 298
Chapter 298
He didn’t know anything about the Bennett Family’s drama and just kept praising Emily. “After she told us where you were, she passed out.
“When we examined her, we found she was completely dehydrated from not eating or drinking for so long, and one of her arms was broken.”
He continued, “I still can’t figure out how a girl not even twenty managed to survive alone in the mountains for days and even save a grown man. That must’ve taken incredible determination,”
As the team member spoke, Lucas’s face went completely pale, and he actually swayed on his feet.
‘It really was Emily. She saved me,’ Lucas thought, his mind reeling.
Lucas clenched his teeth so hard he thought they might crack. He didn’t even know what he was feeling as he asked, “What about Lydia? Back then, a lot of people definitely saw her bringing me out.”
The team member didn’t notice anything was off with Lucas and just answered honestly, “You mean your sister? Yeah, she really was on Lightning Valley at the time.”
Lucas’s eyes lit up with hope, but that hope was crushed just as quickly.
The team member went on, “After we brought the unconscious Emily back, we let the Bennett Family know we’d found you. They rushed over right away and joined us in the search.
‘Lydia was with me at the time, but halfway up the mountain, she twisted her ankle and scraped her hand. The injury wasn’t serious. I patched her up on the spot, and it didn’t affect her at all.
‘But she started crying, insisting I take her to the hospital immediately, or she’d threaten to make a scene online or report
me.”
Even after all these years, the team member still frowned, clearly annoyed as he talked about it.
He continued, “Luckily, my captain radioed in that they’d already found you unconscious and were getting ready to head back, so I just took her down the mountain.
“When we got out of the mountains, we ran into my captain carrying you. Lydia rushed over and grabbed your hand, looking like she really cared about you.”
He said that last part without any real feeling. After all, he’d seen all kinds of people, and he could always tell at a glance if someone truly cared or not.
Lucas had been impulsive and clueless for over twenty years, but for once, he was actually clear-headed. He understood what the team member truly meant.
‘So this is what really happened,’ Lucas realized. All this time, he’d been played for a fool by Lydia, and because of it, he’d ended up hurting. Emily again and again.
Thinking of Emily, Lucas finally understood what it meant to regret something so much it hurt. ‘How am I ever supposed to face Emily after this?’ he thought.
Emily had no clue about Lucas’s bewilderment and regret, and honestly, even if she did, she wouldn’t have given it a second thought.
Right now, she was frowning at a text message on her phone, her mind drifting elsewhere.

Chapter 298
Ever since Yvonne became a vegetable, life had been a whirlwind for Emily. So much had happened that she’d nearly forgotten Jeremy even existed.
But now, with the Bennett Family in trouble, Jeremy actually reached out to her, saying he wanted to team up. He wanted to leverage her 20% stake to take the Bennett Family in.
Emily had zero interest in the Bennett Family. All she wanted was to get revenge for Charles and Bob, and make sure the Bennett Family could never be Lydia’s backer or shield again.
Even if Emily ever did want to swallow up the Bennett Family, there was no way she’d join forces with someone like Jeremy: that’d be even riskier than making a deal with the devil.
Emily flat-out turned down Jeremy’s so-called kind offer. After a long pause, he finally replied, “Fine. Just don’t regret it, Ms. Harper.”
At first, Emily didn’t really get what he meant, but it only took a couple of days before she realized exactly what he was talking about.
Jeremy wasted no time in teaming up with Andrew instead.
