Chapter 300
Chapter 300
Lydia was the first to notice Lucas. She beamed at him as usual and walked over, her face full of sunshine. “Lucas, you’re back. Where have you been these past few days? Every time something came up, you were nowhere to be found.”
Lydia puffed out her cheeks in mock annoyance, acting just as she always did when she wanted to coax an apology and a promise to make it up to her out of Lucas.
But Lucas just looked at her for a long time, a strange expression flickering in his eyes. Then he finally spoke, “Lydia, I want to ask you something. Can you promise to answer me honestly?”
Maybe because she was in such a good mood, Lydia didn’t notice anything unusual about him. She smiled and nodded, “Go ahead.”
Lucas stared straight into her eyes, speaking slowly and gravely. “Back then, at Lightning Valley, was it really you who saved
me?”
Lydia’s smile froze for a split second; the last thing she expected was for him to bring this up. ‘I have already coaxed him and put this matter to rest, so why is he bringing it up again now?’ she wondered.
Annoyance flashed through Lydia’s heart, but she kept up her gentle smile. “Of course, it was me. Didn’t you see the news back then? Why are you suddenly asking about this?
‘All the news back then showed was us coming out of the mountain, the rescue team carrying me, and you just walking alongside in the videos and photos.
“That doesn’t prove you saved me,” Lucas said, his gaze sharp and questioning.
He suddenly grabbed,Lydia’s arm, his emotions spilling over. “Be honest with me. Who really saved me back then? Was it Emily?”
Lydia’s face turned pale, and she looked at him coldly and strangely.
What’s gotten into Lucas? He used to never even raise his voice at me, but now he actually has the nerve to interrogate me so harshly?’ she thought.
At first, Lydia figured Lucas wasn’t worth much, but since he was Emily’s brother, she was willing to put in the effort to pull him to her side.
But now, Lucas kept siding with Emily over and over, and even dared to doubt her. ‘If that’s the case, then there’s no point in keeping this useless pawn around,’ she thought. In that instant, Lydia made up her mind.
Her eyes filled with tears, and she scrunched up her face, crying out in pain, “Lucas, y-you’re hurting me.”
If this had been before, Lucas would’ve let go right away and kept apologizing nonstop.
But now, not only did he refuse to let go, he actually tightened his grip, demanding even louder, “Tell me. Was it really you
who saved me?”
It was only then that everyone finally realized what was happening and rushed over.
“Lucas, what are you doing? Let go,” Emma shouted.
She reached out to pry Lucas’s hand off Lydia, but Lucas looked like he’d totally lost it. Not only did he refuse to let go, but he also grabbed Lydia by the shoulders and shook her hard. “Answer me.”

Chapter 300
Lydia seemed startled by him, just staring at him blankly without saying a word, her tears falling one after another down her
cheeks.
The sight made everyone else in the Bennett Family’s hearts ache, especially Emma. She clawed at the back of Lucas’s hand so hard that she left red marks, but she still couldn’t get him to let go.
Seeing Lydia’s face go pale with fear, Andrew gritted his teeth, steeled himself, and swung his hand right across Lucas’s face.
Smack. With a loud crack, Lucas finally let go of Lydia’s shoulders, stumbling sideways from the force of the slap, his ears
ringing.
It took him a long moment to look up, and when he did, he saw Gale and Emma pulling Lydia protectively into their arms.
