Chapter 302
That was when the rest of the Bennett Family finally snapped out of it, and they glared at Lucas, even angrier than before. Lucas’s eyes went wide, and he shook his head frantically. “Emily never tried to turn us against each other. This has nothing
to do with her. It was all me.
“I found out it was Emily who saved me on the Lightning Valley back then, not Lydia. Lydia’s a liar; she tricked all of us.”
Lydia was still crying, looking all pitiful. “If Emily says she was the one who saved you, then fine. You can say she saved you. As long as you’re okay, Lucas, I really don’t care about the credit at all.
“But Emily knows you’re the most hot-headed, and that you care the most about what happened in Lightning Valley. It’s been so long, and now she suddenly brings it up? She’s obviously just trying to come between us.”
Lydia continued, “If Emily doesn’t like me, she could just say it outright. Why does she have to stir up so much trouble at home?”
Emma hugged her tightly, gently patting her back. “Oh, my poor Lydia, you’ve suffered so much out there, and now, even after coming home, you still have to put up with being bullied. It just breaks my heart to see it.”
Emma shot Lucas a glare. “I always knew you were impulsive, but I thought at least you knew right from wrong. I can’t believe you’d be so dumb, to let Emily turn you against us with just a few words.
“How did I end up with a son as foolish as you? Lucas, you’ve really let me down.”
Andrew’s face was also filled with disappointment, but he still wanted to give Lucas one last chance. “Lucas, apologize to Lydia right now.”
Lucas stared at them, his face pale. These words were all too familiar, and they made his skin crawl. Before it was him, Emily was always the one they were disappointed in, always the one they forced to apologize.
At that moment, Lucas felt like the people standing in front of him, his flesh and blood, were total strangers, and it scared him to death.
His lips trembled, and for a long moment, he could barely get the words out. “You’re all crazy. Lydia’s brainwashed every single one of you.”
Upon seeing that Lucas was still stubborn and unrepentant, Andrew’s disappointment was obvious. “Lucas, Lydia is your real sister, and yet you choose to believe Emily?
“She’s so malicious. Honestly, it’s like your brain is working backwards the older you get.”
“If you don’t apologize to Lydia today and get her forgiveness, then just get out of the Bennett Family,” Andrew snapped.
If this had happened before, Lucas would’ve been scared stiff by those words. But now, all he felt was a mix of ridicule and anger; there wasn’t a trace of fear left in him.
“You think I actually want to stay here?” Lucas let out a mocking laugh. “Living with you guys, who can’t even tell right from wrong, is just plain terrifying.”
He swept the people in front of him with a look of utter disappointment, then turned on his heel and strode off without a second’s hesitation, almost like he couldn’t get away from them fast enough.
Upon seeing Lucas walk away so decisively, Andrew’s anger only burned hotter.
Andrew snapped, “If you dare step out that door today, don’t you dare call yourself the youngest son of the Bennett Family ever again, and don’t blame me when I cut off your card.”

Lucas stopped dead in his tracks. That little pause made Andrew, who thought he had Lucas under his thumb, feel a wave of relief.
He was about to throw Lucas a bone, but Lucas spoke up first, his voice cold. “So this is how you cut off Emily’s card back then, too?”
It was laughable. Back then, he actually thought punishing Emily like that was only right.
Lucas never once considered how she managed to get by with no income, or what it was like for her to be blamed by the whole family just for having a meal at home.
Lucas’s heart twisted painfully, and without a second thought, he turned and walked out. He never once looked back.
