Chapter 313

In the quiet of the night, the dim yellow light cast a somber glow over the desk, making the already austere study feel even more oppressive.

A man, exuding a cold and noble aura, lounged lazily in his chair. He wore deep blue pajamas, a towel draped around his neck. His half-dry hair fell over his forehead, and those sharp, chiseled features made him look intimidatingly refined.

He held a file in his hand, his elegant, well-defined fingers picking out Emily’s photo from the stack. A faint smirk played at the corner of his lips. He murmured, “So it was you.” He sounded a little surprised, but even more excited.

He picked up his phone and called his assistant, his eyes never leaving the photo in his hand. He ordered, “Book me a ticket. I’m going to Cloudridge.”

Lately, Lydia had been really anxious because Cale was missing.

Cale hadn’t even gotten on the ship as planned.

Lydia had thought that Cale was just going back on his word and trying to squeeze more money out of her.

Annoyed, she tried to reach out and give him a piece of her mind, but he was nowhere to be found. She even offered him money, but there was still no reply.

She thought, ‘This just isn’t like Cale at all-something has definitely happened to him.’

Lydia didn’t give a damn what happened to Cale-in fact, she’d been wishing he was dead for ages. But before that, she had to get her hands on whatever he was holding-she needed to beat everyone else to it.

She thought, ‘If that bastard ends up in trouble, whatever he has would go public in a month, and then I will be doomed.’

Lydia was so anxious that she was practically tearing her hair out. But she couldn’t breathe a word of this to anyone, and even searching for Cale had to be done on the sly.

Even though she kept quiet, Vincent still noticed something was off. He’d asked her a few times out of concern, but Lydia always brushed him off.

Vincent figured it was just some girlish worry and didn’t press her. Instead, he pulled out an invitation to a birthday party.

Even though he’d only looked into Emily’s past at St. Gabriel Reform Academy for Lydia’s sake, he couldn’t help but feel a little bad about it.

After all, he and Emily had once been engaged, so it did feel like he was letting Lydia down a bit. He’d actually started preparing this apology gift quite some time ago.

Lydia had no idea why Vincent was giving her this invitation, but when she spotted the name “Amy” on the invitation, her eyes went wide with delight.

She blurted out, “Is this the world-famous painter Amy? Hasn’t she always lived overseas? What’s she doing throwing a birthday party here?”

Amy’s name was legendary in the art world. Back in college, just about every professor would mention her in class. But unfortunately, Amy had always lived abroad, so hardly anyone here ever got the chance to meet her in person.

Seeing her reaction, Vincent knew he’d hit the mark with this gift. He said, “This is Amy’s first time appearing in the country, and it’s also her first time hosting such a grand party here.

“With your talent and reputation. Lydia. I’m sure you’ll have no problem getting to talk to Amy.”

Lydia’s mood really lifted. She hugged Vincent tightly, her eyes sparkling with emotion. She murmured, Vincent, you’re so good to me.”

Vincent affectionately patted her head and said. “Lydia, you’re the one I love most. Who else would I spoil if not you?”

As soon as he said that, he couldn’t help but think of Emily’s face. But the next second, he forcefully banished that image from his mind-almost like he was trying to chase away the guilt, he pulled Lydia even closer into his arms.

At that very moment, just as Vincent was thinking about her. Emily suddenly shivered, feeling all out of sorts.

Austin, who was walking right beside her, immediately asked with concern. “Emily, are you cold?”
