Chapter 314

They were making their way through an underground tunnel. Except for the lights on the wall, not a single bit of light from outside could get in, so it was naturally a bit chilly.

Emily shook her head, saying nothing, but picked up her pace.

After making Lydia reveal her hand, Emily and Austin didn’t rush back to Cloudridge. Instead, they went off the grid and quietly slipped into a basement nobody else even knew existed.

Locked up down here was none other than Cale, the very same guy who had suddenly disappeared not long ago.

The basement was dim and damp, lined with all kinds of creepy torture tools. Cale was tied to a chair, a black cloth tied over his eyes, leaving him completely in the dark.

When he heard footsteps getting closer, Cale instantly freaked out. He said, “Who are you? Please, don’t hurt me. I have money-lots of it. Just let me go, I can pay you as much as you want.”

He kept begging for his life, all the while racking his brain, wondering who would kidnap him.

Sure, he’d pissed off plenty of people before, but he always used his cash to smooth things over. The only one who might go after him was Lydia, but he felt Lydia would never dare pull something like this.

While Cale was still trying to figure things out, Emily suddenly yanked the black cloth off his eyes.

The sudden burst of light made him squeeze his eyes shut, and he had to blink a few times before he could see clearly-the first thing he saw was Emily standing right in front of him. Judging by his reaction, he clearly knew Emily.

He asked, “I never did anything to you. Why are you kidnapping me?”

Emily stood over him, her icy gaze full of dominance. She said, “Since you admit you know me, I’ll get straight to the point. Are you holding any dirt on Lydia?”

Her blunt question made Cale freeze for a second, and his expression grew evasive. He said, “I don’t know what you’re talking about. Let me tell you-what you’re doing is a crime.

“You’d better let me go right now, or I swear I’ll make sure you rot in jail.”

Once he realized it was Emily who had kidnapped him, he suddenly put on a tough front, his eyes now full of scorn and contempt.

Emily wasn’t the least bit surprised by his denial-her face stayed as cold as ever, not even blinking. While Cale kept shouting, she turned and walked over to a table covered in all sorts of tools, picking out the most inconspicuous little knife.

Seeing her approach step by step with the knife, Cale wasn’t scared at all. He sneered, “What, you trying to scare me? Please, like you’d actually have the guts.” Before he could finish, he let out a blood-curdling scream.

Emily had stabbed the knife straight into his leg without a second thought. Blood gushed out, splattering a few drops onto her face, but she didn’t even flinch. It was like she’d been through this kind of thing a million times before.

Austin hadn’t expected her to do that. He just stood there, staring at her profile-her face looked almost mesmerizing, even beautiful in a dangerous way, with blood splattered across it. He wasn’t scared at all; instead, he actually felt a pang of sympathy for her.

He’d looked into Emily’s past, so he knew what she used to be like. He thought, ‘Just what kind of hardships did she have to endure to become like this?’

Emily could feel Austin’s burning gaze on her, but she didn’t look back. Her eyes stayed icy cold, fixed on Cale’s pain- stricken face. She said coldly, “I’ll ask you again—are you holding anything over Lydia?”

As she spoke, she slowly twisted the knife still lodged in Cale’s leg. Her movements were so elegant, it looked less like she was committing an act of cruelty and more like she was sculpting a work of art.

Her calm voice was like a devil’s whisper in Cale’s ear. Cale cried out. “Tll talk.”
