Chapter 349

“Zack told me you look like a gentleman, easy to get along with, but in reality, you’re ruthless and will stop at nothing to get what you want. He said if I ever ran into you, I should always brace for the worst,” Emily said.

Her words were blunt, but there was no sugarcoating or exaggeration. Jeremy wanted the truth, and that’s exactly what she gave him.

She relayed every single word Zack had ever said about Jeremy, not leaving out a thing. Zack had nothing good to say about Jeremy, who personally sent him to St. Gabriel Reform Academy.

As Jeremy listened to the words that were practically an insult to his face, he showed no sign of anger. He knew Emily wasn’t lying. This was exactly the kind of thing Zack would say about him.

But aside from that, Emily didn’t say a single other thing that was useful. When she stayed silent after finishing, Jeremy frowned, “Is that all?”

Emily met his gaze, her expression calm. “That’s it.”

Jeremy’s expression turned cold, obviously not buying it. He didn’t mind Emily throwing insults at him, but this clearly wasn’t the answer he was after. Emily knew exactly what he wanted to hear.

Zack was the real heir of the Windrose family. In a family like that, even if he didn’t want to, there were things he had no choice but to scheme for.

And it was exactly because he knew so much that Jeremy set him up and had him sent to St. Gabriel Reform Academy. The inswer Jeremy wanted was all about the leverage Zack had over him.

Emily knew she had no real grudge against Jeremy. He was only after her because of this. But Zack had never shared any of hat with her.

He’d gathered that leverage just to protect himself, never expecting it would end up being the reason Jeremy came after him. Naturally, he’d never let it drag Emily into trouble.

What Zack talked to Emily about the most was Quiana. But Jeremy wasn’t buying it. He stared at Emily, his face cold. “Ms. Harper, are you messing with me right now?”

Emily shook her head, her voice earnest. “I know you don’t believe me, but honestly, that’s all Zack ever told me.

“You know what kind of person Zack was. He’s already dead. Do you really think he’d spill something like that to me, a total outsider?”

Jeremy froze, disbelief flickering in his eyes. “He’s dead?”

Emily nodded, a trace of sorrow appearing on her face as she recalled watching Zack die right in front of her. But in sharp contrast, Jeremy looked genuinely delighted.

“Zack was gone. Now the Windrose heir title was mine for good,’ Jeremy thought. He grabbed Emily by the shoulders, almost shaking her in his excitement. “If he’s dead, then where is all his stuff? Where did he hide it?”

It was clear that even though he was thrilled about Zack’s death, he still didn’t believe Emily knew anything. Emily wasn’t surprised by his reaction at all.

From what Zack told her, Jeremy was cautious to the point of paranoia. Once he learned she and Zack were both at St. Gabriel Reform Academy, he wouldn’t let her off the hook.

So, no matter what Zack said to her, the outcome in his eyes would be the same. She couldn’t be spared. Understanding this, Emily took advantage of Jeremy’s paranoia to set a trap for Lydia without hesitation. And if Jeremy wanted payback later…

Emily calmly pushed Jeremy’s hand off her shoulder. “I’ve said it before, Zack has never mentioned any of this to me. If you don’t believe me, you can check for yourself.”

Jeremy’s face darkened, his eyes fixed on her with a hint of killing intent. “Aren’t you afraid you’ll end up just like Zack?”
