Chapter 434

After the events at Lightning Valley, Emily and St. Gabriel Reform Academy dropped all pretense and became open

enemies.

With the evidence Jackson and his crew left behind, plus all the groundwork Austin had laid out in advance, Emily and Austin could do whatever they wanted without worrying about the consequences.

But the academy had a lot to lose, so they had to keep things under wraps and didn’t dare make any bold moves. Compared to that, Emily and Austin naturally had the upper hand.

While Emily was busy dealing with St. Gabriel Reform Academy, she got some news from the hospital. Lucas’s legs were crippled; he’d never be able to stand again for the rest of his life..

He was completely devastated, lying in the hospital with no will to do anything. The only time he showed any sign of life was when he shouted for Emily.

Lucas had been a race car driver; racing was all he knew. Now that both his legs and hands were crippled, there was nothing left for him to hope for in this life.

After all, Lucas had fallen off that cliff trying to save her. Emily wasn’t about to be as cold-blooded as Lucas had been to her back in the day.

So, she called off her plan to buy out Lucas’s shares, covered all his medical expenses, and even personally handed over 300 thousand dollars as a token of gratitude right in front of the cameras.

Whatever happened to Lucas after that was none of her business, and honestly, she couldn’t care less. But because she didn’t care didn’t mean the news wouldn’t still find its way to her.

After all, the Bennett Family was now the biggest laughingstock in all of Cloudridge, and plenty of people were just waiting for karma to catch up with them. So when that day came, the whole internet exploded.

Gale, once so powerful, now has a stroke, bedridden and dependent on others for basic needs. At first, Emma felt sorry for him and took care of him. But as time went on, she grew impatient, and her disgust became impossible to hide.

Lucas had his accident and was left severely disabled, able to move only his upper body. Emma was so devastated that she fainted from crying several times, and each time she woke up, she would go to comfort and care for her son.

But after his injury, Lucas became irritable and depressed, blaming and resenting Emma for everything, slowly wearing down her patience.

In the end, on a stormy night, Emma slipped out of the house without a word. She left in such a rush that she didn’t even bother to pack her usual clothes, but she made sure to bring all of Gale and Lucas’s shares.

No one knew what methods she used, but somehow she got Gale and Lucas to transfer all their shares into her name. She turned around, cashed out every last share, and disappeared with all the money.

As soon as Lucas found out, he called the police right away, and naturally, the whole thing blew up online. Luckily, Emma wasn’t completely heartless. She left Gale and Lucas some savings so they wouldn’t starve to death.

But with no income, and both of them needed to hire people to take care of them, plus all those medical bills, they could only watch their money slowly run out.

Gradually, their savings dried up. They began selling off furniture and household knickknacks, and eventually, even the Bennett family’s villa had to be sold. Gale and Lucas had no choice but to move out and rent an apartment.

Around this time, the police learned where Emma was. Gale and Lucas saw a glimmer of hope, hoping to recover the money from those shares, only to get the devastating news that Emma had died.

It turned out the reason Emma ran away was that, under pressure from both her husband and her son, she ended up meeting someone online-a so-called confidant who seemed to understand her.

Emma had never had to lift a finger in her life; she’d never known what suffering felt like. Thanks to the Bennett family’s status in Cloudridge, everyone around her had always been “kind” to her all these years.
