Chapter 70
The kidnapper seemed unsure how to deal with Emily. He tossed his phone aside and went off to talk with the others. Whatever they discussed remained a mystery, and only Kyle stayed behind, while the rest left the warehouse.
Kyle sat by a rusty barrel, casually scrolling through his phone. Every now and then, he glanced up to make sure Emily wasn’t trying anything stupid.
Emily could tell these guys had done this before. They all wore identical masks to hide their faces, kept a close eye on her, and even the ropes binding her were tied with professional precision.
Fortunately, Emily knew exactly how to deal with this kind of situation. Jackson Jenkins taught her, but sadly, he was no longer around.
Every time Kyle glanced away, Emily gently moved her wrists. She kept it so light and quiet that she had already loosened the rope, and he didn’t notice a thing.
All she had to do now was wait for the right moment.
Maybe luck was finally on her side, and the moment came pretty fast. The guys who left came back, and Hayden had someone thrown over his shoulder-bloody all over, unconscious. It was Austin.
Hayden carefully lowered Austin from his shoulder, checked his pulse, and after confirming he was still alive, turned to the others. “You two, get some meds. It would be a shame to lose such a valuable hostage.”
His indifferent tone made it clear that, to them, Austin was nothing.
Kyle pocketed his phone and walked over, giving Austin a curious nudge with his foot. “Is he from Beloris?”
Before he could finish, Hayden slapped the back of his head. “Have you forgotten the rules here?”
Kyle glanced at Emily. His expression was hidden, but the silence said enough.
Hayden stared at Emily for a bit, like he was thinking hard. Then he said, “I’m going to pick someone up. You two stay here.”
Still uneasy, he pointed to Austin and added, “This one is different from the others. There are too many eyes on him. Stay alert, and if anything feels off, move him immediately.”
Hayden rushed off, leaving Kyle and the other dude behind. They made sure to lock up tight, then went outside to keep watch, just in case something went down.
Emily waited until she was sure the door was locked. Then she let go of the rope she had been holding and slowly crouched down to untie her legs.
Emily had been tied up for so long that her limbs were stiff. She leaned against a metal rack to steady herself, waiting until the numbness faded before making her next move.
She crept over to Austin and gently gave him a push.
Austin swayed slightly at her touch but didn’t wake up. In the flickering light, his face came into view.
Though his body was drenched in blood, his face remained untouched as if someone had spared it on purpose. It was a young and handsome face-sharp features and thick eyelashes.
Emily had seen all kinds of charm before. St. Gabriel Reform Academy was packed with pretty girls and hot guys. For example, Andrew and Lucas, who grew up with her, were each attractive in their own way.
However, Austin’s looks could put most men to shame.
