Chapter 7
I doubted Tyler had any idea what he was doing. He was trying to lure me into betraying my marriage and Skyler, my loving husband.
I hadn’t so much as crossed his mind during the seven years he was abroad, yet he’d realized his love for me less than a month after returning to the country.
How laughable!
I would’ve been moved to bits if Tyler had told me this in the past, but now, his love was too little and too late. Besides, he claimed to love me, yet he allowed Ruth to stay with him in the Stone residence.
Had he forgotten the way he’d treated me upon his return? I sure hadn’t.
He was fickle-minded and irresponsible-he wanted to have his cake and eat it. He wanted to reconcile with me, yet he didn’t stop to think about what would happen to Ruth.
Speak of the devil-Ruth stood nearby and stared at us. I deliberately asked Tyler, “Did you stop to think about how Ruth would feel? Have you forgotten your promise to marry her?”
“Don’t bother about her. Just tell me whether you’ll take me back. What will it take for you to say yes? Think about it. We can go abroad, where no one knows about our past. No one will make fun of you for already having a child, and we’ll go back to how things used to be. What do you think?” he asked.
Ruth stormed over to us before I could say anything. She wept and asked, “How can you do this to me, married.”
Tyler shoved her away. “This is none of your business. Get lost!”
He turned back to me. “What do you say, Rory?”
Ty? We agreed to get
“Tyler Stone!” Ruth screamed, losing her composure. “I won’t let you get back together with her! You have to marry me!”
She glared daggers at me. “How dare you seduce my boyfriend when you’re already married, Aurora! You’re shameless!”
Honestly, they were each crazier than the last. I’d already told Tyler countless times that I was married-he was the one who refused to give up. What did that have to do with me?
I was about to say something when Calvin’s voice came from behind me, “Mommy!”
I turned to see Skyler looking displeased. He said to me, “Come here.”
My heart warmed at the sight of him, and I jogged to him, linking arms with him. I faced Tyler and said, “Listen carefully, Tyler. I’m married, and I’ve started a new life. Please stop harassing me.
Regardless of how Tyler and I had been involved in the past, there was nothing between us now.
Still, he didn’t seem to be able to understand that. He kept trying to get to me, which annoyed the hell out of me.
When I ignored him, he set his sights on Calvin. He bought Calvin toys and snacks, even offering to play games with him. It got on my nerves, and even Skyler was pissed.
And so, we took the opportunity to take a family trip to Southvale when Skyler needed to go there for business. Calvin was so delighted that he wanted to bring a whole bunch of toys with him. I stopped him.
Southvale’s scenery was beautiful, and the air there was fresh. Being amid nature and away from the hustle and bustle of the city naturally calmed our hearts.
Living a simple and peaceful life was something I’d always wanted. It was too bad our trip didn’t last for too long.

Calvin made noise about wanting to have candy apples when we were almost home, so Skyler got out of the car to get him some.
Calvin was curious about the street market outside and ran around haphazardly while I chased him. Suddenly, a motorcycle shot out of a nearby alley and headed straight for us.
I instinctively pulled Calvin out of harm’s way, but it was too late for me to dodge. At that moment, a pair of hands grabbed me and pulled me back. I was pressed flush against a broad chest, and I heard my savior’s racing heart.
Skyler held me tightly and said soothingly, “You’re safe. You’re safe, Rory.”
My knees were weak from the fright, and I was still terrified. For some reason, the scene of Skyler saving me overlapped with my memories of being saved in the past. A thought formed in my mind.
“Skyler, were you the one who saved me back then? It wasn’t Tyler, was it?” I asked.
He looked at me and tightened his hold on me.
Tears filled my eyes, and I thumped his chest. “Was it you or not? Answer me!”
He sighed and admitted it was him.
Tears streamed down my face as I looked at him. I wanted to say something, but the words refused to come.
It turned out I’d been wrong from the start.
