*Today of all days,* I growled inwardly, my mental voice dropping into a lethal register. Around me, a few nearby wolves instinctively straightened, sensing my sudden shift in energy.
*There’s more, Derek continued, his tone darkening. They’re armed. And Alpha Lucian Cross has been seen with them.*
My breath hitched. Alpha Lucian–The cold, calculating wolf who’d been quietly expanding his territory and influence across continents.
His presence made this not just a personal vendetta, but something far more dangerous.
My gaze swept the hall–the guests gathered in celebration, the delicate decorations Summer had painstakingly arranged, the quiet hum of joy this day was meant to hold.
And then, my thoughts turned to her–unaware, somewhere behind the doors, moments from walking
down the aisle, while danger crept ever closer.
*How many?* I demanded through the link.
*At least twenty wolves. Two of our border patrols are already down.*
A direct challenge. Not a warning. An attack. On my mating day.
Alpha Foster wasn’t just trying to rattle me–he was sending a message. One meant to undermine my authority, to shatter Summer’s sense of peace, and to desecrate the bond we were about to seal.
*I’ll handle this personally,* I decided, my voice cold with controlled fury. *Derek, evacuate the eastern quadrant residents to the safe houses.*
“Ethan, organize our defense team. No one breathes a word of this to any guests–as far as they’re concerned, there’s simply a delay.”
“And Luna Summer?” Ethan asked quietly.
“Tell Lyra to stay with her, explain that there’s been a minor security issue I need to address. Tell her..“I hesitated, feeling my wolf’s protest at the separation, “tell her I’ll be back before she knows it, and nothing will stop this ceremony.”
As we moved discreetly toward the side exit, I was stopped by an attendant rushing toward me, her expression panicked.

“Alpha Alexander! We can’t find Lady Lyra!”

Cold dread washed over me as I grabbed the woman’s shoulders. “What do you mean you can’t find her? She was just here.”
“She went to check on her baby, sir, and neither she nor little Thea have been seen since. And-” the attendant’s voice broke, “Luna Summer is gone too–disappeared from her preparation room. The window was open.”
The world seemed to stop around me as the implications hit with devastating clarity. This wasn’t just an
attack at our borders. It was a coordinated assault meant to strike at my heart.
They had taken my mate, my sister, and my infant niece.
A roar of pure fury tore from my throat, sending the nearby wolves cowering and the human guests shrinking back in fear. My wolf clawed for control, demanding blood, demanding vengeance.
“Find them!” I commanded, my Alpha voice echoing through the hallway 1 with such force that windows rattled. “Every wolf, every resource–find my Luna, find Lyra, find Thea NOW!”
I closed my eyes, desperately reaching for Summer through our bond, fighting through the wall of emptiness until I caught the faintest thread of her consciousness–fear, determination, and love. She was
alive. She was conscious.
And she was heading straight into danger.
“Where would they take them?” I demanded, my mind racing through possibilities.
“The old boathouse,” Ethan suggested suddenly. “It’s isolated, accessible by both land and water for a quick escape, and far enough from the main compound that we wouldn’t immediately detect their
presence.”
I nodded grimly. “Foster knows that territory from previous diplomatic visits. Assemble the elite guard.
We move now.”
As warriors rushed to follow my commands, I felt a cold certainty settle in my chest. I had promised Summer that no one would ever hurt her again. That her days of fear were over. That with me, she would always be safe.
I had failed her. But I wouldn’t fail her again.
“Alpha Foster and his allies have made their last mistake,” I told Ethan, my voice deadly calm as we strode toward the vehicles. “When this is over, there won’t be enough of them left to bury.”
Through our bond, I sent all my strength, all my love to Summer, willing her to hold on until I could reach her. My wolf howled within me, calling to its mate across the distance that separated us.
*I’m coming for you, my Luna. Hold on.*
