Sarah’s POV

I arrived with nothing, and when I left, I was just as empty–handed. As I stepped off the ship, an unfamiliar world stretched out before me.
It was remote here, but as more passengers disembarked, the dock came alive.
Luxury cars lined the curb, glamorous people swept into waiting vehicles, and engines roared one after another, the air thick with the smell of fuel and anticipation.
I stood motionless, watching the sleek cars drive away. Only then did it hit me–I had nothing.
After a moment’s hesitation, I pulled out my phone, about to call Elena to pick me up.
A hand tapped my shoulder from behind. I spun around, hope blooming in my chest.“Alexander!”
It wasn’t him.
Jeremy blinked at me, then let out a short laugh. “Miss Winters, it’s me.”
I winced, immediately embarrassed. “Sorry, Mr. Smith.”
Jeremy’s eyes widened slightly, seeming mildly intrigued by my slip–calling his Alpha by name so casually.
I saw the question in his eyes, though he said nothing.
I realized I’d almost revealed too much with that reaction.
There was no need to explain further though–trying to clarify would only make things more suspicious.
Better to move past it.
“But didn’t you and Alexander already leave the ship?” I asked.
He nodded. “We did. I realized I forgot something and had to double back. Good thing he reminded me to check before we left, or I’d be screwed.”
My eyes lit up. “So… where is Alpha Alexander now?”
“In the car,” Jeremy said plainly.
Caught under my hopeful stare, he added, “It’s late, Miss Winters. Probably not the safest place for a lone she- wolf to be standing around. Why don’t you come with us?”
He offered a polite smile. “We’ll take you home. Alpha Alexander wouldn’t want anything happening to his guest.”
My face broke into a delighted smile as I nodded without hesitation. “Thank you, Mr. Smith.”
Jeremy led me to the parking lot, his manner warm and gentlemanly. When we reached the sleek black Bentley, he opened the door with practiced ease. “Miss Winters.”

I bent to step inside–then froze. A shift in the air.
I looked up and locked eyes with Alexander.
His gaze was ice cold, cutting through me like winter wind.
The intensity of it sent a painful chill down my spine, a stark reminder that we were strangers now.
Whatever connection we once had was severed.
Composing myself, I slid into the seat beside him. “Sorry to trouble you, Alpha Alexander.”

He was still staring at me with that same cold, hard gaze, like I was nothing more than a stranger who’d overstepped.
A flicker of fear ran through me. He might actually tell me to get out–he was absolutely capable of leaving me stranded if he wanted to.
Alpha Alexander Blackwood was not known for his mercy.
“Look at me,” I added pitifully, holding up my injured hand. “No phone, no money, hurt and stranded. You wouldn’t seriously leave me here, would you?”
Jeremy jumped in to support me. “Exactly, Alpha. Miss Winters is a lady, after all. If something happened…”
“And,” he added slyly, “think of little Miss Thea.”
Thea.
How was she doing now? And how was her mother, Lyra? It had been so long since I’d seen her.
Then it hit me–what a cruel twist of fate. I had left Alexander to protect Thea, convinced it was the only way to save her.
And now, here we were again, brought back together… because of her.
I let out a bitter laugh under my breath. Was this the Moon Goddess’s idea of a joke?
“Are you planning to drive anytime soon?” Alexander’s sharp voice cut through my thoughts.
“Right away, Alpha,” Jeremy said, quickly closing the door and climbing into the driver’s seat. “Miss Winters, where to?”
“The Crescent Moon Hotel,” I replied.
Jeremy grinned. “Perfect. We’re headed that way.”
“Eyes on the road,” Alexander said coldly, his voice cutting through the silence like a blade. “And keep your mouth shut.”
Jeremy stiffened, his knuckles whitening on the steering wheel. “Understood, Alpha.”
I rolled my eyes silently.
