I didn’t feel joy. No happiness. Just… disbelief. A wave of shock rolled through me, and then, anger. It coursed through my veins like fire.
I looked at the doctor, my gaze hardening. “What did you just say?”
The doctor didn’t notice the shift in my tone. They just continued to smile, completely oblivious. “Yes, Your Majesty. Princess Elara is one month pregnant. In nine months, we’ll have an heir–a prince or princess! Congratulations!”
A round of applause followed.
I could barely hear them. My mind was swirling. An heir?
The doctor beamed, oblivious to the storm brewing inside me. “Would you like us to inform the others? I’m sure Princess Belle and Prince Wells would love to know they’ll be getting a niece-”
“SHUT UP!” I barked, my voice snapping like a whip.
The room fell silent. Every pair of eyes turned to me in confusion, surprise.
Why wasn’t I happy? Why wasn’t I celebrating? The woman I fought so hard to win over was carrying my child.
But I wasn’t happy. No. I was consumed with rage. With jealousy.
I turned my eyes on them all, my voice low and cold. “The news doesn’t leave this room. Understood?”
The doctor’s voice faltered. “Y–yes, Your Majesty.”
“If anyone leaks this information… I will make them regret it. Understood?”
The room was tense, filled with nothing but the sound of my breathing, heavy and uneven.
I didn’t care. I had to make sure no one knew about this… no one could know. Not yet.
I turned on my heel. “Where is she?”
“Princess Elara is in the emergency room,” the doctor replied quickly. “We’ve given her some tranquilizers to ease the pain. She might be asleep now… I’ll show you
I followed the doctor through the halls, my feet heavy, my mind in turmoil
When we reached the room, she was lying on the bed. Elara, still, pale, fragile. It felt like I could see through her, into the emptiness I couldn’t fill.

“When will she wake?” I asked, my voice betraying none of the confusion and torment twisting inside me.
“Two to three hours, Your Majesty.”
“Leave us.”
The doctor bowed and exited quickly, but when I turned to leave the room, I found Dario still there.
“Why the hell are you still here?” I growled.
Dario dropped to one knee, his eyes shining with excitement. “I wanted to personally congratulate you again, my king. This is wonderful news.”
I clenched my fists. “I told you, there’s no need-”
“I insist, My King,” Dario interrupted, his grin wide. “You’re like a brother to me, and I can’t tell you how thrilled I am. Nora would have been just as happy if he were here.”
I could feel my control slipping. “Dario, look-”
“Do you think the baby will look like you?” he grinned, clueless. “Have you thought about names? Should we start planning the nursery?”
“ENOUGH!” I roared, my voice echoing off the walls.
Dario froze. The grin faded. He was stunned by my outburst.
“What’s wrong, My King?” he asked cautiously, his voice barely a whisper.
Just… give me a minute alone with Elara,” I snapped.
Dario’s face faltered. “Of course.”
He left, muttering more congratulations as he went, but I barely heard him.
When the door clicked shut, the room was still again. My eyes turned to Elara.
My hands trembled as I reached toward her. I leaned in close, my voice a whisper against her skin. “Everyone’s congratulating me, my love… but none of them know the truth.”
The truth.
The child inside her wasn’t mine.
Thorne’s child.
I fought to keep the anger from spilling over. I placed my hand on her belly. It was still flat, barely a sign of the life inside her. But it didn’t matter.
That life wasn’t mine. It never would be

I lowered my hand slowly, my fingers tracing her delicate neck. A simple twist–one quick motion—and I could end it all.
Her life. The child’s life. Gone.
But I couldn’t.
I didn’t want to lose her. No matter what. Even if the child wasn’t mine, she would stay with me. She had to.
I couldn’t lose her.
When Elara finally stirred, it was the bright light above that woke her. It hurt her eyes, and she shielded them with one hand. “Where… where am I?” Her voice was hoarse.
A nurse appeared beside her. “Princess Elara, you’re awake! Don’t worry, everything’s fine. Just stay still for a while. The operation will be over soon.”
Elara’s confusion morphed into fear. “Operation? What operation? I’m not sick!”
“We’re terminating the pregnancy, Princess,” the nurse said, as if it were the most normal thing in the world.
Elara’s eyes widened in horror. Her heart dropped. “What?”
The realization hit her like a cold wave. Dorian had brought her here, discovered her pregnancy… and now he was going to end it.
“No!” she screamed, her body jerking up from the table. “Get away from me!”
The nurses were quick, hands grabbing her, pulling her back down. They shackled her arms and legs, strapping her to the table.
Terror gripped her chest. “No! I’m warning you—stop! Get off me!” Her words were frantic.
One nurse’s voice was steady, though. “Don’t worry, Princess. This is the King’s order. He said the child’s aura wasn’t strong enough. It’s better to terminate it now. You’ll have another one soon, a healthy one…”
Elara’s blood boiled. “Aura? You’re lying!” She fought harder, but it was no use.
“Where’s Dorian?” she demanded. “Bring him to me! NOW!”
Another nurse approached, syringe in hand. “You’ll see the King once we’re done, Princess.”
“NO! I’m not going anywhere until I see him!” Elara screamed, her body writhing.
The nurse struggled to hold her still. “Someone help me!” she gasped.
At that moment, the door to the room swung open.
A tall figure entered, his presence commanding.
“Give us a moment,” Dorian’s voice was low and cold.

Elara’s breath caught in her throat, tears welled in her eyes. “You heartless bastard…”
Dorian didn’t flinch. His eyes cold, unfeeling, he leaned over her, his hand brushing across her stomach. “It’s not my child. Why should I show it mercy?”
Elara’s chest tightened. “It’s a human life.”
“I don’t give a damn,” Dorian sneered. “You really think I’m going to let you keep that bastard child?”
