Chapter 15 Alba and Auster

The sound of Harold’s palm striking the table startled Victor and Charlotte, but Evelyn stood tall, unfazed.
Just as Harold thought she had been cowed, a louder crack rang out.
Evelyn had slammed her palm down, shattering the silence.
“You’re the insolent one! How dare you try to intimidate me!”
This time, it was Harold who faltered.
Victor and Charlotte stared in shock. Their sister’s presence was overwhelming. She had just silenced the entire room with that one move.
“Evelyn Gulliver, is it? You’ll regret this! I won’t let you off!” Harold growled through clenched teeth.
“Mr. Wyndham, you’d better worry about yourself first.” Evelyn turned calmly toward Victor and Charlotte. “Vic, Lottie, let’s go.”
The bodyguards stepped forward to block their path, but after witnessing Evelyn’s aura just moments ago, they hesitated. With Harold saying nothing, they backed away and left a passage
open.
“D*mn it!” Harold tugged at his tie in frustration.
“Mr. Wyndham…” one of his men spoke hesitantly.
“What now?!” he snapped.
“Sir… the table… It’s broken.”
Harold glanced down. Sure enough, the spot where Evelyn had slammed her palm was cracked through,
A second later, the entire conference table collapsed with a loud crash.
He jumped in shock. That table was made of solid hardwood, thick and expensive. How could a single slap reduce it to splinters?
Leaving HighPoint Construction, Victor and Charlotte both let out long breaths of relief.

“Evie, is that really it? Just like that?” Victor asked.

“Mm. They know they’re in the wrong,” came Evelyn’s reply. “They won’t dare take this to court.”
“So what now?” Charlotte asked.
“Now we head to the police station and bring Cosmo home. Once the police see the surveillance, his name will be cleared.”
The two of them nodded, still awed. They realized that if not for Evelyn, they wouldn’t have known what to do. The sight of all those black–suited bodyguards had been terrifying enough.
Not long after, they brought Cosmo back home. Penny nearly cried with joy when she saw her children return safely. “Thank goodness you’re all alright. I’ll make something special–we’ll celebrate tonight!”
“Mom, you have no idea how amazing Evie was today! If not for her, Cosmo would still be locked up…” Charlotte gushed, excitement spilling over as she recounted the day’s dramatic
events.
Evelyn, however, brushed it off and quietly went inside to give Wyatt his
treatment.

A few days later, the Cirruses met with the Sharpes over dinner.
“Mr. and Mrs. Sharpe, this is our biological daughter, Alba. We especially brought her here today to meet you,” Avril said with a warm smile, and Alba politely greeted them.
Rosella Quinton–that was Mrs. Sharpe’s name–returned the smile, but inwardly she sneered. This is their so–called daughter? What a joke. She looked gaudy, covered in flashy jewelry like some nouveau riche. A country bumpkin through and through.
“Douglas, look at them–the children are grown now, and Alba has just turned 18. I think it’s best we arrange the marriage soon. Then we, as parents, can look forward to grandchildren,” Marshall began, testing the waters.
Douglas glanced at Rosella, his wife. She quickly laughed and replied, “There’s no rush. She’s only 18, and Alba just returned to you guys. She and Auster haven’t even had time to bond yet. Let the children get to know each other first.”
Marshall and Avril froze, their smiles stiff. A brush–off?
Sensing the tension, Marshall raised his glass and quickly shifted the conversation.

Chapter 15 Alba and Auster
“Father, Mother, I’m going to step out for the restroom,” Auster said, rising from his seat.

Avril shot Alba a quick look.
Alba caught on immediately and followed after Auster, using an excuse of her own. In truth, she was determined to see her fiance.
She was more than pleased with him–handsome, refined, from a powerful family. So much better than that cripple the Gullivers had tied her to. The Sharpes were wealthy and powerful. Marrying into it would mean a life of luxury.
“Mr. Auster!” Alba called as she caught up.
“What is it?” Auster glanced at her.
To be honest, he felt nothing for her. Compared to Evelyn, she was far inferior. Evelyn’s cold indifference stirred a desire in him to conquer her. This woman in front of him was far too common, too vulgar. That was why he had hardly spoken all evening.
“Mr. Auster, are you out here for some fresh air? Let me join you. After all, you’re my fiance. Even though we haven’t met before today, I’ve heard so much about you. I’ve admired you for a long time…”
Auster studied her coy expression with disdain. Trying to seduce me, huh? Pathetic. Women like her are everywhere–cheap and desperate.
And to think the Cirrus family would offer up such a shameless daughter. But since she’s offering herself, why refuse?
He curved his lips into a smirk, lifted her chin with one hand, and asked, “Do you really like me that much?”
