“No way! Ethan’s family has money, and he’s close with Mad Dog. We can’t afford to mess with them-”
“Shut up! I told you to take me to them, so take me. Cut the trust me?” Evelyn snapped.
crap. I’m
your
sister–don’t you
Simon froze under her sharp tone, but just the thought of facing that gang again filled him with dread. “I’m not going. If you want to go, go yourself!”
“Coward! How can you be such a chicken? You really won’t go, huh? Fine–I’ll call Mom and ask her to take me there.”
“No, wait!” Simon blurted, panicked.
Evelyn had found his weak spot. With no other choice, he reluctantly agreed to take her.
They ended up at a bar.
“Ethan and Mad Dog usually drink here. Mad Dog’s a local thug; people around here are afraid of him. Are you sure you still want to go in?” Simon asked nervously.
Evelyn didn’t answer but marched straight inside.
Simon’s knees shook, but he couldn’t just let his sister walk into danger alone. Gritting his teeth, he followed.
At the counter, Evelyn asked about the Talbot name. The staff knew exactly where to point- they were regulars here, and everyone knew it.
When Simon caught up, Evelyn shot him a look. “Why’d you come in? Weren’t you scared?”
“I… I couldn’t just let them pick on you alone. If anything happened, Mom would never forgive me,” Simon muttered, clinging to an excuse.
Evelyn didn’t call him out. She simply raised her foot and kicked open the private room door, leaving Simon dumbfounded. D*mn, that strength! She’s almost as strong as Cosmo.
Inside, Ethan, Mad Dog, and their crew were enjoying themselves until he sudden crash silenced the room as all eyes turned toward the intruders.
“Well, well, look who’s so bold as to boot open Mad Dog’s door–Simon Gulliver. After the beating you took yesterday, you’ve still got the nerve to come back? Didn’t get enough?” Ethan
sneered,

Simon’s face burned with shame. He had no ground to stand on. Great, another beating for sure.
“Mad Dog, this idiot doesn’t know when to quit. We ought to teach him another lesson tonight!” Ethan said eagerly, hoping to curry favor.
Mad Dog sat there, bald head and neck covered in dense tattoos that made the skin crawl. His lackeys, sporting dyed hair and more ink, grinned like hyenas, waiting for the show.
With a simple hand gesture, Mad Dog silenced Ethan. He sipped his drink and studied Evelyn and Simon. “What’s with the girl? Why’d you bring her here?”
“I…” Simon had no idea what to say.
Ethan burst out laughing. “Hahaha! Mad Dog, I bet he’s here to beg for peace–offering you a woman in exchange!”
“Shut up, she’s my sister!” Simon shot back.
“Sister? Even better!” Ethan howled. “Your sister’s gorgeous. Why don’t you leave her here to keep us company?”
Mad Dog stood, pointing at Simon. “Your sister stays. You, crawl under my legs, and maybe I’ll let you live.”
“Yeah! That’d be your honor. Hurry up, Simon!” Ethan chimed in.
Simon tugged at Evelyn’s sleeve. “Let’s go. Now.”
“I’m not leaving,” Evelyn said flatly, rendering him at a loss for words.
“Hahaha! What’s this, sweetheart? You wanna be Mad Dog’s chick? Planning to keep us company?” Ethan’s grin widened.
Evelyn stepped forward and planted one foot on the coffee table. “That’s right. I’m gonna keep you company. The only question is–can you handle it?” Her cold gaze swept across the room, her presence so sharp it felt like she owned the place.
Mad Dog had been in the game long enough to sense trouble. His face darkened. But Ethan, drunk on arrogance, only grew bolder. “Well, since you said it yourself, don’t regret it later!” he jeered, reaching out to grab her.
Before he could, Simon shoved him back. “Don’t you dare touch my sister!”
Surprise flickered in Evelyn’s eyes. He’s scared out of his mind, yet when someone tries to lay hands on me, he still steps up. He really is a Gulliver.
Ethan staggered back, furious. “Mad Dog, deal with him first. After that, the woman’s all yours.”

Mad Dog tilted his head, ready to move–but before he could, Evelyn snatched a beer bottle off the table and smashed it straight over his skull.
Crack!
Blood streamed down Mad Dog’s head.
“How dare you attack Mad Dog?! Get them!” Ethan roared.
