“Huh, dream on! My girl would never go begging to you!” Linnea scoffed. She turned to Evelyn. “Evie, that b*stard’s way out of line. Want me to teach him a lesson for you?”
“No need. He’s not even my fiance anymore. He belongs to the real heiress now. Let them destroy each other,” Evelyn said with a faint curl of her lips. Otherwise, Alba might really think she’d landed herself some kind of prize.
“Oh, right, Linnea–I do actually need your help with something. I want to borrow your family’s medical facility.”
“No problem! I’ll set it up.”
The Breeze family ran an empire and even owned their own private hospital. It only accepted high–profile clients, and every service, piece of equipment, and imported machine was top of the line.
Evelyn wanted to get Stellan thoroughly examined before she could decide on a treatment plan.
After class, she headed straight home to check on him.
“Mom, how’s he been today?”
“No big issues. He was in a bad mood this morning, shouting nonstop, and he barely touched his food. But this afternoon I gave him some cream of wheat, and he ate it all.”
When Evelyn stepped into the room, Stellan was awake, and he immediately burst out complaining, “Stop pretending to care. Why are you even bothering with me? Why?!”
“I don’t want to bother with you either. But you’re my fiance, aren’t you? Stop yelling. I’m going to make you better. Tonight, I’m taking you for a full examination.”
“No!” He didn’t even think before rejecting the idea.
“Why not? Don’t you want to recover?”
“I don’t want to live anymore. Why waste the effort?”
“That’s not your choice. I’ve already decided to save your life.”
Before he could argue further, Evelyn lifted him onto her shoulder once again.

“Put me down, you barbaric woman! Put me down right now…” He was furious. Was she going to keep slinging him over her shoulder like a sack forever?
“Quit it. You can’t fight back anyway. What–would you rather I carry you bridal style?”
Stellan fell silent.
Truthfully, he weighed very little, his body all skin and bones. Carrying him was effortless for Evelyn. Once outside, she shoved him into the waiting car.
Linnea stepped out, glancing around the rundown surroundings. “Girl, your family really is… poorer than I ever imagined. Completely shattered my expectations.”
“Save the commentary. Drive. To the hospital.”
And with that, the car sped off toward the Breeze family’s private hospital.
Because Linnea was present, the hospital director personally greeted them and immediately arranged for tests.
The Breezes‘ hospital wasn’t just renowned for advanced equipment and world–class care–it was also famous for its discretion. No matter how much money one had, patient information was never leaked. That was why the elite trusted it.
Stellan lay on the bed while a nurse approached with a needle. His whole expression radiated suspicion and resistance.
“Give it to me. I’ll do it,” Evelyn said, taking the syringe herself and drawing his blood personally.
When that was done, she wheeled him off for imaging scans. The results came back quickly.
Evelyn studied the images, her brow furrowing tighter with every glance. “Your condition is even worse than I expected. Multiple fractures, bones misaligned and shattered…”
This looked like torture, not just an accident. Tsk… so cruel.
“And in your head, I found several silver needles. They’ve been lodged there a long time, reaching into your cerebellum. They’ve already destroyed a large number of neural fibers. If they aren’t removed soon, you may end up in a vegetative state.”
Stellan closed his eyes as Evelyn spoke. The painful images seemed to replay in his mind, tormenting him all over again.
She let out a silent sigh. How much suffering did he endure to end up like this?
“Everything’s ready. We can start the surgery,” Linnea said as she stepped inside.

“Got it.”
Stellan’s eyes suddenly snapped open, fixing on Evelyn. “You’re the one who’s going to operate on me?”
“Yes. I’ll do it myself. I’ll save you and rebuild you into someone new.”
“I told you, don’t bother. I’m already a cripple. Why won’t you just let me die? Why force this on me?” His voice was soaked in sorrow.
Evelyn still didn’t know what he had been through, but judging from his state, he had clearly endured inhuman abuse. His heart must have been filled with nothing but hatred.
“Stellan, don’t you want revenge? If you die, are you willing to let those people celebrate? Staying alive is the only answer. I’ve died once before, and it made me treasure life even more. Only the living have hope.
“Do you know what it’s like to be flayed alive, bones crushed, every inch of you screaming in agony? Your enemies would feast on your flesh and drink your blood. Do you really want to let them trample your corpse and gloat over it?”
Her words struck deep. Stellan knew that pain all too well. There were people who had bled him dry, people who would’ve eaten him alive if they could.
After a long silence, he finally agreed, “Do it. I’ll cooperate with you. And if one day, I really can stand again, if I recover everything I once had… my life will belong to you.”
Evelyn nodded. “Good. Then I’ll restore you to what you were.”
Without wasting another second, she prepared the anesthesia and began the surgery.
This operation was no small task. Stellan’s body was riddled with damage, requiring everything from cranial work to bone reconstruction. The procedure stretched on for hours. Evelyn enlisted the hospital’s top doctors to serve as her assistants.
The team worked tirelessly beside her, but what amazed them most was her technique. Her precision, her control, even her unconventional methods–it was unlike anything they had ever
seen.
Instead of tiring, they found themselves excited, eyes glued to every movement, terrified of missing a single detail of this once–in–a–lifetime performance.
So, this is what a true master looks like. She may look like a young girl, but the scalpel moves in her hands as though she has decades of experience. This… This is the real thing

By the time it was over, more than ten hours had passed. The team was exhausted, but Evelyn -despite sweat dripping down her forehead–kept going until the very last stitch was tied. At last, when the sutures were complete, she and the others let out a collective breath of relief.
“Dr. Gulliver, you were incredible!” one of the assisting doctors exclaimed as they stepped out of the operating room.
“Thank you all for your hard work today. Go get some rest,” Evelyn told them.
By then, it was already past midnight. In her office, she tried to stay awake, sipping glucose solution to keep herself steady, but exhaustion finally forced her into a light doze.
At nine the next morning, Linnea arrived at the hospital. “Where’s my girl?” she asked immediately.
“Miss Breeze, Dr. Gulliver is resting in her office,” the director replied.
“And the surgery? Did it succeed?”
“Successful–highly successful, Miss Breeze. I’ve lived a long time, but I’ve never witnessed such extraordinary skill. Dr. Gulliver is remarkable. If we could keep her here at Breeze Medical Center, it would be…”
