Chapter 10
The exhaustion from the long flight and the jet lag left Braelynn feeling dazed when she arrived in this unfamiliar coastal city.
Following the address, she found the temporary residence arranged for her by the branch office.
Due to their previous agreement, and because Alexander seemed to be dealing with some urgent matters, she had yet to officially meet her future husband since her arrival.
But to her surprise, life overseas was not as difficult as she had imagined
at first.
Although the branch office was small, her colleagues were fairly friendly. And Alexander, whom she had never met, had made extremely thoughtful arrangements despite his absence.
He had someone prepare all the necessary household items for her in advance; even the refrigerator was packed with fresh food, and several easy–to–care–for green plants sat on the windowsill, adding a touch of vitality to the cold temporary home.
What surprised her most was a simple velvet box placed on the bedside. table in the bedroom, containing a platinum wedding ring with a minimalist and elegant design, perfectly sized for her finger.
Braelynn’s wandering and helpless heart found a bit of comfort, and she even began to feel a trace of anticipation for this unknown marriage.
A few days later, the day she was to meet Alexander finally arrived.
She changed into a crisp business suit and carefully fixed her hair and makeup in front of the bathroom mirror.
Looking at her reflection, she saw that the innocence in her brows and
eyes had faded. replaced by a hint of determination. She couldn’t help but recall her previous life as Mrs. Fidgett.
Sadly, back then she had thought that was the best place she could ever belong.
If she remembered correctly. Zachary and Carolina’s engagement party had taken place just a few days ago. By now, they should have completed the ceremony and be receiving everyone’s blessings, right?
In this life, he had finally gotten what he wanted.
And she, too, was about to begin a brand new life here.
She took a deep breath, picked up the briefcase on the table, and was just about to leave when she heard the doorbell ring.
She paused, peered through the peephole, and wondered–there was still some time before the appointed hour.
She opened the door, only to see two anxious and familiar faces.
“Dad? Mom? What are you doing here?!”
She hurriedly ushered Henry and Maria inside. “Didn’t we agree you wouldn’t come? The journey is so long–how could your health handle it?!”
Maria grabbed her hand, her voice trembling. “Braelynn! Something has happened!”
She froze. “What happened?”
“Zachary and Carolina’s engagement party went wrong!” Maria’s eyes were red with anxiety. “That day, he accidentally overheard us mention that you were getting married overseas. It was like he suddenly became a different person! He interrupted the ceremony on the spot, said he had to
find you, and insisted on asking if you were marrying voluntarily
Henry chimed in. “We kept telling him you were doing this of your own free will, but he wouldn’t believe it! He kept saying you were being forced by us or by that Alexander He was like a madman, demanding to know exactly which city you were in and who you were marrying!”
“We tried to persuade him for days. Carolina fainted from crying several times, but he was determined to get a clear answer! We really had no choice, so we rushed over, hoping you could calm things down and then find a way to go back and tell him yourself. It seems… he just won’t accept anything but your own answer!”
Braelynn was shaken to the core by what she heard, and for a moment. she didn’t know how to respond.
Zachary… what did this even mean? He had pushed her away time and again. hurt her for Carolina over and over, and now that she had left as he wished and was getting married abroad. he was acting like this?
She was just about to say something when, out of the corner of her eye, she suddenly caught sight of the scene below the apartment building.
A black luxury sedan sped toward the building at a nearly uncontrollable pace and screeched to a halt!
The car door was flung open, and a man in a high–end tailored suit–tall and upright, yet looking unusually disheveled–rushed out. His eyes were bloodshot, stubble covered his chin, and his tie was askew, as if he hadn’t slept for days.
But his gaze was as sharp as a hawk, instantly locking onto the window
of her floor!
Separated by the glass, their eyes met from afar. and the air seemed to freeze.

Braelynn spoke slowly, hearing her own voice–dry yet calm–as she addressed Henry and Maria:
“I don’t need to find a way to go back.”
“He’s here…”
