Chapter 4
Braelynn’s eyes went wide, her face as white as a sheet.
She stared at Carolina in shock, never thinking that in such a life–or–death situation, Carolina would actually try to drag her down just to save that ring and some cash.
“Damn it! How dare you trick me!” The gang leader was furious. He spun around, and started throwing punches and kicks at Braelynn.
“Are you going to tell me? Where the hell did you stash your valuables? Spill it!”
His hard leather shoes slammed into Braelynn’s ribs and stomach, the pain almost knocking her out.
“I already told you. What you’re holding is mine.”
She managed to whisper a weak defense, but the furious thugs didn’t buy it at all. They thought both of them were just playing games.
Just as Braelynn thought she might be beaten to death, suddenly she heard the wail of a security patrol car outside the neighborhood, along with loud footsteps and shouts getting closer to the villa.
The gangsters freaked out right away and exchanged worried looks.
“Damn it! What bad luck!” The gang leader shouted, his eyes blazing with anger. “Quick! Pour the gas! Burn it all down!”
One of the thugs quickly grabbed a bottle and splashed gasoline on the curtains and couch before pulling out a lighter to set them on fire.
Flames shot up in an instant, spreading fast along everything that could

catch fire.
Seizing the chaos, the gangsters bolted from the scene in a hurry.
Carolina watched as the fire grew bigger, completely terrified. She screamed and struggled like crazy, but her hands were tied behind her back, leaving her stuck and unable to move.
Braelynn was struggling to breathe through the thick smoke, coughing. non–stop, and her arm was hurt from those gangsters. She watched in despair as the flames consumed the expensive furniture and closed in on them.
Was this really how it would end for her–dying miserably even after being reborn?
Just when she felt completely hopeless, there was a loud bang and the front door of the villa burst open with force from outside.
A familiar tall figure rushed in through the fire and smoke.
It was Zachary!
He must have come running after hearing the alarm or all the noise, and his face showed an urgency like never before.
“Zach!” Carolina shouted like she had just spotted a hero, “Help me! Please hurry! I’m so scared! They hurt me!”
Zachary quickly scanned the chaotic scene. When he saw the two women in trouble, he hesitated for just a moment before sprinting straight toward Carolina without thinking twice. He scooped her up in his arms, wrapped his jacket around her, and bolted for the exit.
Braelynn watched his back disappeared from the flames and thick smoke with determination. At that moment, it felt like her heart shattered completely.

The intense heat burned against her skin, and the heavy smoke started to cloud her mind little by little.
She could hear voices outside in a frenzy, but the fire was raging too fiercely that no one dared to rush back inside again.
Tears mixed with soot streamed down from her eyes.
She shut her eyes tight, waiting for death to take over.
Just as she was about to lose consciousness, through her blurry vision, she saw that tall figure again. With great effort and unwavering
determination, he charged through the flames again, racing toward her.
“Was it an illusion?” she thought.
Then everything went dark as she lost consciousness completely.
