Chapter 7
When she woke up again, the worried and haggard faces of Henry and
Maria came into view.
“Braelynn! You’re finally awake! You scared me so much!” Maria held her hand, tears streaming down her face. “How could you be so careless? You actually fell down the stairs!”
Henry sighed as well: “Fortunately, Zachary and Carolina found you in time and brought you to the hospital…”
Braelynn felt a deep bitterness in her heart,
Careless? Found in time?
That was nothing but an accident that Zachary had allowed, even facilitated, just to prove his loyalty to Carolina!
But she couldn’t say anything. Even if she did, Henry and Maria wouldn’t believe her, and it might only provoke Zachary into even harsher retaliation. She simply closed her eyes in silence.
Maria wiped her tears and continued, “By the way, we asked around about that Alexander. He doesn’t have much of a foundation right now, but we’ve heard he’s quite capable and tough, and he agreed to the marriage. Are you really planning to…”
“Yes, I want to marry him.” Braelynn opened her eyes, her voice calm but resolute.
Maria hesitated, “That young man is said to be ambitious and seems reliable, but his current situation isn’t great. You’ve never really suffered. since you were little, I’m afraid you might not be able to handle the complicated circumstances over there…”

“Mom, going overseas is always a tough thing. It’s fine, I can handle it.” Braelynn interrupted softly.
Seeing that she had made up her mind, Henry and Maria could only sigh, “Alright then. We’ll prepare some dowry for you when we get back. We can’t let you be too wronged.”
At that moment, the door to the hospital room was pushed open. Zachary walked in, just in time to hear the last sentence, his brows furrowing slightly. “Prepare what?”
Braelynn’s heart tightened, afraid Henry and Maria would say too much, so she quickly interjected, “We were talking about what needs to be prepared for Carolina’s engagement. Mom and Dad are discussing what to get for her.”
Zachary’s gaze lingered on her face for a few seconds, as if trying to discern something, but in the end, he didn’t ask further.
After Henry and Maria left, Zachary didn’t leave. Instead, he sat down by her hospital bed.
Only the two of them were left in the room, and the atmosphere felt somewhat stagnant.
“Braelynn,” he suddenly spoke, his voice low, “I know, we’ve both come back.”
Braelynn felt a tightness in her chest, but tried her best to remain calm on the surface. “So?”
Zachary looked at her, his expression complicated. “I know, we’ve been married for years. It’s only natural that you can’t let go of me so easily.”
Braelynn almost wanted to laugh.

“But,” his tone turned serious, “since you’ve decided to let me and Carolina be together in this life, don’t hold on to any unrealistic fantasies about me. Carolina is very sensitive and insecure. I don’t want her to be disturbed or hurt by you anymore.”
Listening to his self–righteous words. Braelynn only felt it was absurd and pathetic.
From the moment he died, all her lingering feelings for him had already
been burned to ashes!
How could she possibly still have fantasies about him?
But she couldn’t be bothered to explain, and simply replied with utmost calm, “Alright.”
Zachary was stunned.
The crying, arguing, and clinging he had expected didn’t happen at all.
This was completely different from the Braelynn in his memory, who had once relied on him.
Besides feeling relieved, deep down, he was surprised to find a faint sense of loss and emptiness.
Suppressing that strange feeling, he awkwardly said, “Get some rest,” and left the hospital room.
On the day she was discharged, Braelynn packed her things by herself and returned to the Aidley’s villa.
As soon as she entered the house, she heard laughter and cheerful voices coming from the living room.
Zachary, Carolina, and Henry and Maria were sitting together.

Braelynn paused for a moment, then walked straight through the living room as if she hadn’t seen anything, heading for her own room.
She had just stepped onto the stairs when she was called.
“Lynn!” Carolina’s voice came from behind, carrying a hint of barely concealed pride. “You heard, right? Zach and I are about to get engaged. Since you’ve already given him to me, don’t have any thoughts your shouldn’t. Just focus on preparing for your overseas marriage, okay?”
Braelynn turned around and looked at her, her tone flat. “Don’t worry, I stopped caring about him a long time ago.”
