“Mr. Daniel, we know you’re anxious, but you can’t just go about rescuing people like this!”
“I have to find my wife.”
The person on the other side said nothing more, simply returning to the search and rescue team.
Friends from their usual circles rushed over in a panic; they had all been guests at the wedding that day.
“Daniel, what’s going on? Why do you suddenly need search and rescue personnel?”
“Gabriella fell into the river. I hope all of you can help me look for her. The more people, the greater the strength. I will make sure to thank you all generously afterwards.”
The others exchanged glances, and someone speculated with a look of disdain, “Daniel, could Gabriella be playing a prank on purpose? Maybe after Thia came back, she felt insecure and was afraid Thia would threaten her status, so she staged this whole thing. Don’t let her fool you.”
“Yeah, honestly, she’s something else. She’s already married to you, yet she’s still so suspicious and petty. I feel tired for you just watching it.”
Daniel hadn’t expected everyone to see Gabriella this way, and for a moment, he was too stunned to respond.
“How could you all think of her like that?”

His sudden question left everyone even more bewildered.
Daniel continued, “It’s confirmed–Gabriella fell into the river. The police have been searching for a whole day, but hope is slim. That’s why I’m asking for your help.”
A pair of hands pressed down on his shoulders, and someone said wisely, “Daniel, maybe this is actually a good thing. Everyone knows you and Thia are true love. Gabriella was just an uncertain factor. Now that she’s had an accident, you and Thia can finally be out in the open.”
“Exactly. Do you really want Thia to hide behind you for the rest of her life? If you ask me, this is a golden opportunity.”
“It’s just Gabriella’s bad luck, but honestly, if Thia hadn’t been forced to leave you back then, Mrs. Durke’s place would have been hers. Gabriella never would have had a chance. Now things are back where they belong. From now on, you can live happily with Jerry and Thia.”
Daniel’s eyes flashed with anger. He shook off the hand on his shoulder without any courtesy.
“Nonsense!”
That person fell hard onto the grass, looking up at Daniel in disbelief, as if staring at a madman.
No one else dared to say anything more. They just felt Daniel seemed to care about Gabriella now, which was very unusual.
Wasn’t he always the one defending Cynthia, acting as if he didn’t care about any woman except her?
At that moment, Jerome rushed over, picked up a stone from the ground, and hurled it fiercely at the group, his face twisted with malice

“Don’t you dare say bad things about my mom! Get out of here! I never want to see you again!”

Everyone was hit by the sharp stones, their faces bruised and battered as they scattered in all directions, completely baffled by what was wrong with this father and son.
Daniel squeezed his eyes shut in frustration and said in a deep voice, “Get out, and don’t let me hear any more negative comments about Gabriella from any of you!”
This time, everyone fled in panic.
Daniel and his son stood guard by the riverbank, their eyes aching from longing.
Meanwhile, Cynthia at the hospital kept calling Daniel. When she woke up and found neither the man nor the child there, she couldn’t help but panic.
It wasn’t until the tenth ring that Daniel reluctantly answered.
“Danny, where did you and Jerry go? I miss you both so much. Can you come back to the hospital and stay with me? I’m scared alone, and my stomach hurts.”
Only then did Daniel remember that Cynthia was still recovering in the hospital room.

Cynthia persisted, “But I want Danny to take care of me himself. The baby in my belly misses you too. Please?”
Her coquettish tone sounded unusually grating to Daniel.
“Thia, be sensible. That’s enough for now.
He hung up decisively, and when he saw the rescue team pulling something from the water, he grabbed Jerome and rushed over anxiously to see what it was.
To his dismay, it was just a sack full of stones, not Gabriella at all.
This was the tenth time tonight that their hopes had been dashed.
