Chapter 16
On the day they collected the divorce certificate, Emilian drove Gabriella to the entrance of the courthouse.
Daniel and Jerome arrived late, but delaying time could not change the inevitable outcome.
The process was swift. When Gabriella walked out, her expression was relaxed, and Emilian smiled as he gave her a warm hug.
“Congratulations, you’ve escaped your misery.”
Jerome ran up, uncertainly asking, “Mom, can you come have one last meal with me and Dad?”
Daniel followed behind, his gaze still fixed on Gabriella’s face.
There was a scratch on her left cheek, which looked much softer in the glow of the evening sun.
It was left by a falling crystal chandelier fragment when the three of them were at the mall.
She was injured because she pushed him and their son out of harm’s way.
But in the days that followed, they saw the scar as ugly and looked at her with disdain.
At that time, she must have secretly felt sad.
Facing Jerome’s invitation, Gabriella smiled and shook her head.

“There’s no need for a meal. Let’s part ways here.”
“Jerome, grow up well. Our bond as mother and son ends here.”
“Daniel, goodbye.”
Emilian opened the car door for her. Gabriella bent down and got in, quickly disappearing from their sight.
It was as if Jerome finally realized that this farewell meant there would be no return.
He ran after the car down the road, weaving through the traffic. Even if he was hit, he would get up and keep chasing.
“Mom! Mom, don’t leave me!”
Daniel’s eyes grew sore and wet as he chased after, holding his son tightly in his arms.
“Jerry, stop chasing. She won’t come back anymore.
“This is the retribution we deserve. Not disturbing her life is the right thing to do.”
Jerome cried so heartbreakingly that he fainted.
A year later, Jonathan and Cynthia were released from prison.
Now, their eyes were dull, and they had become shabby, marginalized figures.
Back then, Daniel had sent them both to prison, where they suffered greatly.

carrying.
After this ordeal, Jonathan hated Cynthia to the core. He beat her viciously, then fled to Southeast Asia, where he was lured into a den of wolves by unknown people.
Cynthia always believed Daniel and Jerome would still care about her, so she crawled to the front of the Durke’s villa.
“Jerry, weren’t you always the fondest of Mom Thia? Why don’t you want me now? I was so good to you before-”
Jerome’s gaze was as cold as ice. He ordered the servants to throw the ragged woman out onto the street.
“You’re not worthy to be my mother.”
“Someone as filthy as you is better off dead.”
When the news reached Daniel, he passed over Cynthia with an expressionless face.
Later, under his instructions, she found no one to help her and eventually died in an abandoned, unfinished building. Her body was only discovered by the police after it had begun to rot and stink.
Knowing he had neither the right nor the face to appear before Gabriella again, Daniel quietly took Jerome to Gabriella and Emilian’s wedding.
Emilian’s devotion and favoritism toward Gabriella was unprecedented. All the guests at the venue were stunned, praising the couple’s unwavering love.
“It’s never too late for the right person to arrive. Gabriella is so wonderful, Daniel didn’t know what he had, and he deserves to be

lonely for the rest of his life.
“That’s right. Emilian waited for Gabriella for so many years and finally got his wish. Daniel’s heartbreak is nothing but his just deserts!”
Daniel said nothing, his gaze falling on Gabriella under the spotlight in the distance. She was breathtakingly beautiful, and her eyes held only Emilian.
“Mom is so beautiful. This time, she will definitely be happy.”
After a year, Jerome finally saw the mother he had longed for day and night. Even if it was just from a corner, secretly watching, he felt
content.
Daniel smiled, “Yes, she will definitely be happy.”
His eyes behind the sunglasses were already wet.
Gabriella’s heart trembled violently, but she felt at peace, knowing she was ready to embrace a brand new life.
Emilian was not the same as Daniel.
For Emilian, he had never experienced such a grand moment as today.
He had finally married Gabriella.
“Gabriella, do you trust me? Do you believe I have the ability to make you happy?”
Gabriella held Emilian’s hand, interlocking their fingers, tilting her head with a smile, “I believe you.”
Colorful ribbons fell from the sky as the melodious wedding march began to play.
