“That’s impossible!” she shrieked, refusing to believe her dream was a lie. “You’re just making things up to steal my husband! You think I’d fall for that?”
Her entire fantasy was crumbling, and she was clinging to the wreckage.
I was almost amused by her stupidity. She believed every lie I told her but refused to accept a single word of truth. A lost cause.
“Fine,” I said. “Go ask your husband.”
Like a drowning woman grasping at a straw, she spun around and grabbed Mark’s arm, her eyes wide with

desperate hope. “Mark, she’s lying, right? That… that Aston Martin is yours! You just keep it parked at home!
Tell her!”
Mark said nothing.
His silence made her frantic. “Mark, say something! Tell her you’re secretly rich! Put this lying, cheating ho- mewrecker in her place!”
I watched them both, my voice low and steady. “Mr. Evans, if you’d rather not talk about this here, we can
find a more private setting. But I assure you, it won’t be as simple then.”
Though my tone was casual, he heard the threat loud and clear. It had taken him over a decade to climb
from the bottom to his current position. One wrong move, one pissed–off heiress, and his career could be
over because of this woman.
That thought galvanized him. He shouted, his voice drowning out Amber’s. “Amber, you’re the one causing
problems! You’ve disrupted the entire office, wasted everyone’s time! Do you have any idea what that costs the company?”
He took a deep breath. “And for the last time, that car is not mine! Now, apologize to Ms. Kim immediately and get the hell out of my sight, or I will have security drag you out!”
Hearing him admit it himself, the last of Amber’s delusion shattered. He wasn’t a secret prince.
She stood there, vacant and lost.
Then, in a flash, she lunged, her perfectly manicured nails slashing across his face. “You lied to me!” she screamed. “Why did you tell me that car was yours?!”
“You crazy bitch! Get off me!”
In an instant, they were a mess of flailing limbs and furious shouts. The crowd of coworkers backed away, someone pulling out their phone to call security.
In the middle of the brawl, Amber’s wild eyes suddenly found me.
“This is all your fault, you bitch!” she shrieked. “Why didn’t you just tell me the truth from the start? Look what
you’ve done to me!”
She broke away from Mark and charged at me.
But in that split second, Gita, who had been standing beside me the whole time, shoved me back.
And then, like a different person entirely, she met Amber’s attack head–on.
I was stunned. Were Gita and I really that close?
Gita clearly had the upper hand, but she was holding back, mindful of Amber’s pregnancy. As they grappled, Amber let out a final, desperate scream and raked her nails toward Gita’s face.

In the process, Gita stumbled back, her arm catching the sharp edge of a desk. She cried out, a sheen of cold sweat breaking out on her forehead.
Amber hit the floor with a sickening thud. Her face went deathly white. She clutched her stomach, her lips. trembling as a dark stain of blood spread across her dress.
Gita, cradling her injured arm, turned to me and bowed her head respectfully.
“Miss Kim,” she said, her voice formal and steady. “Your father assigned me to protect you.”
Understanding dawned.
Just then, security finally arrived, bursting into a scene of absolute chaos.
