Chapter 5
Jasper POV
The front door slammed shut with a deafening thud, like it had struck straight through my chest.
Freya hadn’t even looked back. The way she walked out carried the weight of her disappointment.
She didn’t even try to explain.
Could I have been wrong about her?
Halle was still crying beside me.
We had grown up together, and every time she cried, I would do my best to comfort her.
But this time, for some reason, I just felt
noved.
I told a maid to get some ointment for the scratches and applied it for her.
“Stay home and rest. I’ll head to the office for a while.”
Halle tugged at my arm, tears still welling in her eyes.
“Aren’t you going to stay with me? I’m so afraid something will happen to the pup…”
I
pulled my arm free.
“If you feel unwell, call the butler. He’ll take you to the hospital. You’ll be fine.”
But my mind wasn’t with her. All I could see
Freya’s eyes, clouded with hurt.
Our marriage might have been an alliance, but over the last five years, we’d found a way to make it work.
I had too many responsibilities at the company and was constantly burdened by stress.
But Freya was always cheerful, always finding new ways to make me smile.
Coming home to her every day made everything feel lighter.
Still, after years of fighting in the corporate world, I wasn’t used to speaking my mind.
I often watched the hope fade from her eyes, yet I never knew how to comfort her.
Restless, I paced my office. My wolf was just as agitated.
Ask her how she is, my wolf growled low. “She looked so sad just now.”
I replied, “We just had a fight, it’s not the right time… no, wait. I should.”
I rarely called her first after an argument, she was always the one to apologize.
I thought about the sapphire bracelet I had ordered for her a few days ago, waiting at the jeweler’s.
I drove there to pick it up.
Whenever she was upset, I would get her a piece of jewelry,
Jewels had always been my apology, the currency of my silence.
On the way home, my stomach was in knots.
I’d always been too proud to apologize. But today, I practiced my words over and over in my mind

“Freya, I didn’t mean to blame you…”
No. Too stiff..
“I should’ve been more considerate of your feelings…”
Still no.
“Please don’t be mad at me…”
None of it felt good enough.
When I got home, I opened door after door. But she was nowhere..
All the apologies I’d been rehearsing were now trapped in my throat.
“Madam hasn’t returned since she left this morning,” the maid said.
Usually, when she sulked, she’d vanish for a day or two and come back. But this time–something felt different.
pulled out my phone and dialed her number, but it was out of service.
A chill shot down my spine.
“Check her things,” I asked at the maid. “See what she took with her.”
Moments later, the maid returned. “Only a small handbag. Everything else is still here.”
My heart hammered against my ribs.
I strode into the walk–in closet, the bedroom, and every corner of the villa.
Nothing was missing, and yet, the house felt different.
Suddenly, a searing, gut–wrenching agony tore through my chest.
It was a pain I had never felt before, a sense of loss so profound it stole the very air from my lungs.
My wolf let out a pained, guttural howl. “The mate bond… it’s gone.”
“No!”
My heart stuttered, panic clawing at my throat. I immediately called my assistant.
“Find her. I don’t care how–track everywhere she’s been. And pull my mate–bond documents from the pack archives. Do it
now!”
I tried to tell myself that she wouldn’t leave.
I gave her a life everyone envies. She loves me more than anyone
No matter how bad our fights got, she was always the one who gave in first.
The assistant called back soon.
Su, we tracked her to a car dealership, but she disappeared after that. Her name isn’t on any of the sales records ”
I gritted my teeth “She’s smart enough to have used a fake name! Track every car that left that dealership!”
Also, we found her emergency room records from a few days ago, when she was hit by a car. She…”
“Just tell me my voice was tight
“She’s pregnant, sir Two months”

The world tilted. My lungs locked.
So my suspicion was right when she was throwing up yesterday.
But why didn’t she tell me?
Why was she making nutritious meals for Halle while she was so pale and exhausted?
Halle needed to be taken care of, but what about Freya?
I’m such a bastard. What have I done?!
The assistant was still on the phone. “What else? Tell me everything!”
He took a few deep breaths on the other end.
“The mate bond between you and Mrs. Brolin… it’s been severed. You should be feeling it.”
The gut–wrenching pain… that was the moment it happened.
My knees buckled. I had to brace myself against a cabinet to stay on my feet.
“The papers must be fake! I never signed anything! It’s a fake!”
I screamed, slamming my fist down on the table, unwilling to accept the reality of the situation.
“Sir, I compared everything carefully. The signature, the blood, everything is real. You are… not mates anymore.”
