Chapter 6
Jasper POV
Freya’s cheerful voice was gone, leaving a silence in the house that made me restless.
I stared at the dressing table, thinking about how just a few days ago, she was sitting there, putting on the new necklace I’d given her.
Her eyes, still tear–filled from our argument, asked if she looked beautiful.
We had just fought about Halle again, but she still accepted the necklace, her beautiful smile returning soon after, even if it was a little strained.
I loved her deeply and had given her a life of endless wealth.
We got along perfectly on every topic except for one: Halle.
Freya always felt I was too close to Halle, but Halle was my childhood friend. I didn’t think there was anything wrong with our closeness.
Besides, Halle wasn’t as strong and optimistic as Freya; she needed more of my care.
Every time we fought, I felt a pang of guilt and wanted to apologize, but the words would never come out.
Instead, I would give her an expensive piece of jewelry, and when she accepted it, I knew she wasn’t angry anymore.
I racked my brain, unable to understand why she would leave so decisively, giving up a marriage so many people could only dream of.
I heard the front door lock click.
Freya? My heart leapt. I ran out–
Only to see Halle walk in.
Her expression carried a triumphant smile.
“What’s wrong, Jasper?” she asked.
The strength drained from my body.
“She’s gone,” I mumbled.
Halle’s joy was barely contained.
“What does it matter that she’s gone? You still have me. I know you’ve regretted it all these years. You only stayed with her so you wouldn’t hurt her, right?”
She wrapped her arms around my waist and leaned her head against my chest.
“It’s all good now. She finally realized she shouldn’t get in our way Jasper, let’s just get back together.”
Halle’s lips pressed against mine, but I quickly pushed her away.
“No you’re wrong”
“Halle, we were never a couple. You and 1 are just friends.”
Halle stared at me, her eyes wide and disbelieving, turning red with tears
“Jasper, I know you’re too proud to admit your feelings. You only married her to spite me, you don’t really love her, right?”

She tried to kiss me again.
“No!” I pushed her away once more, this time with more force.
An unfamiliar panic was building inside me.
Memories of Freya’s hurt eyes during every fight flickered through my mind.
I finally understood that her frustration wasn’t about being petty.
It was because Halle actually had intentions towards me.
Why hadn’t I believed her and had always blamed her for being unreasonable.
“Halle, we’re just friends. I’ll help you with any problem you have. But the only person I love is Freya.”
Tears streamed down her face. She pounded my chest with her fists.
“Why?! The two of you already broke the mate bond. You shouldn’t love her anymore. You can choose someone else now!
“Do you remember how close we used to be? We just grew apart. I can give you time to reconnect, okay?”
Something inside me snapped cold. I narrowed my eyes.
“How do you know our bond was broken?”
The only people who knew were my assistant and I.
A low growl echoed in my chest–my wolf warning me.
Halle’s smile faltered.
“I just… I guessed…” Her eyes darted away, and she took a step back.
I grabbed her wrist and pulled her close. “Tell me everything. How much do you know?”
She looked up at me, and the fleeting awkwardness was replaced by her usual arrogant smile.
“Don’t be so dramatic, Jasper. Freya doesn’t love you anymore.”
The words pierced like a blade.
That’s a lie. It’s just something you made up.”
She let out a short, cold laugh.
“She told me herself.”
“She came to me and asked for my help to get your signature, She said she was tired of your marriage and wanted to give her place to me
“Why are you still holding on to a woman like that?”
My heart felt as if it had been ripped open.
The pain was so intense my body trembled uncontrollably
My wolf let out a pained roar.
