I was very excited, but I quickly calmed myself. Although the evidence suggested that Mia had premeditated the murder, my conclusion remained speculative.
I had to make Mia confess to giving Max the stolen penicillin, but there was no way she’d voluntarily admit to murder.
By the time I returned to the nurses‘ station, the Campbells had already left.
“Did Max’s parents leave?” Puzzled, I asked my colleagues.
“Yeah. Mia dropped by earlier and told them that she misread the label of the drug vial, which led to a medical error,” my colleague replied.
She continued, “She even offered them monetary compensation and asked them to stop causing a scene. She also told them to drop the charges against her.”
“That’s it?” I asked in disbelief.
“Yeah. I told you they were just after the money. As soon as Mia said she was willing to pay up, they looked overjoyed. They even started discussing it right on the spot.”
“I can’t believe the Campbells are asking for eight million dollars. Where is Mia going to get so much money from?” one of the
nurses exclaimed.
“This entire mess was her fault to begin with. She even tried to pin the blame on Nat. Now that her plans have been foiled, she’s
afraid she might end up in prison. She has no choice but to admit to her mistakes,” said another.
After a brief conversation, everyone seemed to have moved past the matter.
Now that everything was over, I was able to return to work at the hospital. Despite that, I still felt quite uneasy about the entire
situation.
Mia was never one to settle. There was no way she would have agreed to pay the Campbells such an outstanding amount of
money.
As I was dressing a patient’s wound, my colleague suddenly called out to me. “After you’re done with your task, take a look at the
link I just sent you. Something bad just happened!”
My heart sank. I had a feeling something terrible had occurred.
After I was done dressing the bandages, I immediately checked my phone. I clicked on the link and was redirected to a video with
Mia in it.
Dressed in a white nurse’s uniform, Mia was facing the camera and sitting upright. Before she said anything, she bowed apologetically toward the camera.

Then, with a teary expression, she said, “First, I’d like to sincerely apologize to Max Campbell’s family. I misread the label on the drug vial and accidentally gave Max the wrong drug. While I admit to my wrongdoings, there’s also something else I’d like to
address today.”
She continued, “This matter has been weighing on my chest for some time now, and I believe the public deserves to know the
truth. When I noticed that Max was suffering from an allergic reaction, I wanted to inform the doctor so they could take the steps
necessary to save his life.
“However, my sister, Natalie, insisted that everything was normal. She even told me off for being unprofessional and dramatic.
“Natalie has more experience as a nurse. She’s also my sister. She always bosses me around, and I’m usually too afraid of her to
go against her instructions. Because of my cowardice, I ended up making a grave mistake.
“Afterward, she pinned the blame on me and insisted that she took no part in the incident. I was the only one who mustered up
the courage to take responsibility for my actions. I was also willing to compensate the patient’s bereaved family.
“As of now, my sister is still working as a nurse at the hospital, and I’m afraid she’s endangering the lives of many more patients
who are currently housed in the wards.
“The only reason I’m choosing to voice out on this matter is because I care about the lives and well–being of the patients at the
hospital. Even if I might lose my job, I want to do what’s right and expose my sister’s wrongdoings to the
world.”
