Chapter 13
Mia chose her words very carefully, and she managed to gain the support of the people online.
“I think it’s commendable for a young woman like her to take responsibility for her actions.”
“Some medical practitioners are just despicable. How can you blame others for your mistakes? I can’t believe she still has a job.”
“I feel so bad for this girl. My older sister is very bossy as well. She’d never admit to her mistakes. When I call her out, she’d just
brush it off by claiming that she’s older than me.”
“In my opinion, the older sister should be the one compensating the victim’s family. Why is the younger sister the only one taking responsibility for this? It’s not fair at all!”
“I found Natalie Hoffman on social media! Let’s express our opinions directly on her account!”
A lot of the comments were from the same few accounts. These people had clearly been paid to insult me under Mia’s post, but
many of the general users weren’t aware of this. As a result, a huge group of people were now under the assumption that Mia was
a victim.
The netizens found my social media account and started leaving spiteful comments and sending me hate messages.
I had just gotten off my shift when my supervisor asked to see me.
“We’ve received too many calls complaining about you. I’m afraid you can’t continue working at the hospital. I hope you
understand where we’re coming from.”
Ever since I started my job as a nurse at this hospital, I worked very hard and always strived to be the best at what I did. I even
received multiple bonuses as a result of this. However, I’d never felt so powerless and pathetic before.
Instead of begging, I packed up my things and left.
I’d just gotten to the main entrance of the hospital when I received a message from an unknown number. Surprisingly, it wasn’t a
hate message.
“I have a secret to tell you, Ms. Natalie Hoffman,” the text read.
Holding my belongings, I had just reached the entrance to my apartment building when a group of men rushed over and
surrounded me.
The leader of the group was none other than Max’s father. He was holding a baseball bat, looking displeased.
“If you didn’t stop them from saving my son, he would still be alive today. They said you’re responsible for giving us our money.
So, if you don’t pay me today, I’m going to have to kill you to avenge my son.”
I fearfully took a few steps back. “Why am I the one who needs to pay?”
“Because we said so.”

I turned around and saw David and Nick. They were standing on each side of Mia protectively, and they were staring straight at
- me.
“Mia already took the blame for you. Don’t you think it’s fair for you to pay the victim’s family the eight million dollars that
they’re owed?”
“Aren’t you going to take responsibility for your actions? You’re a nurse too. Don’t you feel like you should be more responsible toward your patients?”
I chuckled sarcastically. “By that logic, don’t you think that you guys should be more responsible as well? If you like Mia so much,
maybe one of you should die in her place while the other one pays back her debt.”
Nick and David instantly fell silent.
Furious, David turned toward Max’s father and said, “Since she won’t reflect on her mistakes, maybe you should just kill her. She
should pay for what she’s done. As her family, we won’t be pressing charges against you because of this.”
As Max’s father lifted his baseball bat to swing at me, I immediately held up my phone and yelled, “Your son was murdered by
Mia. It wasn’t an accident!”
Everybody at the scene froze.
