“Wait!” I lifted my right pointer finger and showed it to everyone. “Look at my pointer finger. Before this incident took place, Mia caused me to injure it. So, a huge chunk of my skin is missing.”
I continued, “Because of the injury, my fingerprint should’ve been damaged. However, in David’s diagram, it looks completely intact. This fingerprint must be fake.”
David was clearly in shock. He wasn’t expecting this to happen. He even checked the diagram multiple times to verify what I was
saying.
“You could’ve cut your finger yourself after the incident. How are we supposed to know that what you’re claiming is true?” he
challenged.
“All of the other nurses were present at the nurses‘ station when Mia cut me. On top of that, the cut was so deep that the hospital director personally dressed my wound. My colleagues can verify my claims,” I responded.
When Mia deliberately injured me, I never imagined that the scar she gave me would ultimately become the key to proving my
innocence.
Fate worked in mysterious ways.
Now that I had presented him with proof, David couldn’t come up with a way to counter my claim. Instead, he was frantically
trying to make himself seem less guilty.
“I don’t know if the fingerprint is fake, but we did manage to find prints on the drug vial. I’m just calling it like I see it,” he
declared.
Just like that, David cleared himself of all responsibility.
Fortunately, Max’s mother was a clever woman. She figured everything out almost immediately.
“My son died at around 2:00 am, but you people altered the initial report and changed his time of death to 6:00 am,” she stated.
She continued, “Natalie didn’t touch the drug vial, and she has an injury on her finger. Despite that, a complete copy of her fingerprint was apparently found on the vial. So, what I’m hearing is… Mia is the one who killed my son.
“That bitch killed my son and played us like fools!”
“Get her! Let’s kill her to avenge Max!”
Furious, Max’s entire family lunged at Mia. David and Nick tried to stop them, but they ended up getting beaten up as well.
Mia was screaming in pain. If I had to guess, she was probably regretting ever suggesting that I apologize to the bereaved family.
She was finally paying for what she’d done.
The Campbells didn’t stop after they’d given the trio a thorough beating. Max’s mother pulled out her calculator and did some

She tallied the costs of raising Max over the years, added his school fees, and factored in the money he was supposed to support them with after they’d retired. Once she had added everything together, she declared that Mia owed them eight million dollars.
“You’ll have to pay us the full amount no matter what,” she spat.
Mia’s face was bruised and swollen beyond recognition. She was currently sprawled across the floor.
“I really didn’t give him the wrong drug. Before administering the drug, I double–checked everything to make sure it was correct.
There was no way I’d make such a lowly mistake,” she argued.
An idea suddenly came to me.
“If it wasn’t a medical error, are you claiming it was premeditated murder?” I asked.
Upon hearing the word “murder“, Mia visibly panicked.
“W–What are you talking about, Natalie? S–Stop making things up!” she hastily replied.
“Why are you getting so worked up? I didn’t say anything about you murdering
Max.”
